I agree. Having the Wampa visible like that in the SE takes away a lot of the "what will happen, what is the Wampa going to do" feeling.

No, I'm not annoyed because people answered the question. I'm annoying that you called EVERYTHING a sidenote, like we were in 2nd grade again. People should know how to read and write. By saying "everything is a sidenote here" you obviously are missing the fundamentals.

My earlier remark about ignoring the main question was obviously sarcasm as evident by the fact I used a "rolls eyes" smilie. But saying everything is a sidenote... that's just ignorance.

Also, why do I see a lot of people here abbreviate it as "ESB" when the title is "THE Empire Strikes Back" so it should be TESB
Eh, to be honest, I don't think I really have a preference when it comes to the Wampa stuff. It never was my favorite part to begin with. That, though, I believe was one of those things that was actually originally intended to be more explicit right up until filming - I didn't pay a great deal attention to that part of the book as I said, never was my favorite sequence - but to me it didn't actually change anything, so I'm really fine with it either way.

Basically, ANH is what bothers me the most - again, because the CG simply wasn't that good, and sticks out like a sore thumb. Some folks say that's because we just knew it so well originally, which I can see - but for me, it's not that. It's that it just looks so out of place with this crisp CGI on top of grainy 70's film. And the beasts just never look good - particularly when interacting with humans (heck, same with the prequels).

I don't cringe at all in ESB, and same with ROJ - except for "Jabba Rocks" which almost literally makes me puke - it ruins the entire mystique of Jabba's Palace and is like a bad Muppet outtake. When I was a kid, Jabba's Palace was frightening - in a great way. That scene just degrades it to such a kiddie level I can't stand it. I'm half surprised they didn't CGI more clothes on Leia - I wouldn't actually put it past Lucas to have wanted to, but I'm sure it would have just been too expensive.

The reason I don't mind the stuff in ESB like the Wampa, or the thing with the Ewok eyes, is because those were actually things that were intended to happen but never worked out during filming. There is some organic there. ANH just felt like he didn't care for anything he did - I think the enhancements are one thing, vs. the revising. I think a lot of fans feel that way.

In any case, I just think both versions should be available. That's why I pin my hopes on Disney - and I think we'll actually see them next year, before the new film premieres. Should that happen, and I was sitting down to watch Star Wars films, I'd watch the theatrical of ANH, and the SE's of ESB and ROJ - obviously skipping Jedi Rocks, LOL. (Oh, I'm forgetting about Force Hayden, BLECH - when/if we get the originals on Blu, I'll probably cut up my own version of ROJ, taking out Jedi Rocks and replacing the Hayden ghost).

My own side note: I said this earlier in the thread, but since Disney is all about "customized" experiences these days (the stuff they are doing at the theme parks in terms of customizing things is crazy), I can totally see at some point you going to a website, and a list of all the changes made from top to bottom of all the films, and you fill out the form to order your own custom Blu-ray. To be honest, I can totally see it happening, LOL.

To answer your question about ESB - I think it was answered above - it's just easier to use three letters, it's uniform - ANH, ESB, ROJ, TPM, AOC, ROS. It doesn't make perfect sense (putting the T in PM and not ESB, for example) but it's just the abbreviations that have organically sprouted out of the Star Wars community. And everyone knows what you are talking about, anyway.

You know what I give him the biggest props for? Realizing that it was time to hand over the reins and let others play in the universe.

Lucas already had 3B. He really didn't need another 4B. By most accounts, he doesn't live extravagantly. Or seem especially interested in personal wealth, just wanting enough money to do what he wants. I think there was more to it than that.

Listening to statements he made about things during the Blu-ray release, he seems to have softened on quite a few things. While he may not agree, he gets why some of us prefer "rubber masks" to CGI (contradicting his statements in the original DVD commentaries). I mean, he once said he'd never do what he did in letting other folks take over the galaxy and yet he has. While sometimes his mind changing has been infuriating, on the other hand - gotta give the guy props for the ability to change his mind. It's an asset and a liability - and in this case, selling to Disney - I think it's going to be a huge asset.

I mean, what's going on right now is unthinkable - if someone had said even a few years ago that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, etc. were going to be sitting in a room doing the first table read of a new Star Wars movie, not a single person would have believed it.

It's amazing, and I'll always thank George for bringing us the Galaxy, but I also will thank him for letting it go.

I have "A New Hope" that the original theatrical trilogy cuts will appear on Blu-ray with the release of the new Star Wars film. It would be worth it to endure Abrams run, jump and shoot Star Wars just so that could happen. Hey, I can dream right?

I don't think anyone thought they'd see them again... especially Harrison Ford.

It's a very exciting time for Star Wars fans.

I rewatched the RLM reviews too. I agree with Galactus123, loads more entertaining than the PT themselves.

I think Lucas did know that Vader was Luke's father....just look at the look on Alec Guiness' face when Luke asks him how his father dies....you can tell that this is not a comfortable subject and that he is about to lie to Luke

The decision to make Leia Luke's sister was not made until ROTJ was well into production.

I can agree with that...but to say that he did not know that Vader was going to be Luke's father is ignorant to the facts. It's obvious in Ben Kenobi's response to Luke about how his father died that he is lying to him, from a certain point of view

Right, right. So why, in the first draft of Empire, was there a scene when a ghostly Ben Kenobi introduces Luke to the force ghost of his father, the real Daddy Skywalker? I'll tell you why: because Lucas didn't decide on making Vader Luke's father until well into the writing process on the sequel. That's a fact.

I dunno, on the uncomfortable scale I would think admitting you had trained the Jedi that murdered your conversation partner's father would be at least awkward as telling a lie or two.

Wow. How should a person's face look when explaining to someone how their father was murdered? Is that not always an uncomfortable subject?!

See what Geoff stated regarding the draft. Says it all.

LOL, seriously. It's just funny what folks cling to. And to have the nerve to call others ignorant.

It's the same thing as the folks that still in 2014 think there were WMD in Iraq, even though the administration that originally said it came out and admitted that there were not.

Even official Lucasfilm documentation at this point says they weren't, but some folks will just never believe it, LOL.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about that happening. I mean, there can't NOT be money in that happening, and I don't think Disney will be as stingy as Lucas was about releasing only the "updated" versions.

There's got to be SOMEONE at that company who thinks it's worth it and can pull together the resources to do a PROPER restoration of the originals (seriously, I can't believe how awful some of the lightsabers looked in the '04 DVD and then they only fixed SOME of them for the Blu-ray) and get them released.

Now would be the perfect time. They screwed up with the Muppets by not releasing seasons 4 and 5 of The Muppet Show during Muppets Most Wanted promotion OR the previous movie's. Now's the time, Disney. Now's the time.

It's been heavily rumored that they have already been working on them for quite some time.

I wouldn't bet my house on it, but I'd be willing to bet we have them on Blu before the theatrical release of Episode VII.

Heavily rumored? Aside from net chatter (ie wishful thinking) has there even been a serious whisper that these are in the works?
