They really wanted to avoid that G-rating back in the day.

Also hence Owen and Beru's charred remains.

This too. That seemed pretty graphic compared to the other films.

Empire gets all the credit for having the more mature/darker tone, but ANH owns the darkest images.

I think boudin smells bad on the outside.

I've always thought that Anakin wasn't redeemed -- he atones. He atones for his crimes with the only thing he has left...his life.

If he wasn't redeemed/saved and only atones for his crimes then that makes even less sense for him to be young. Actually he shouldn't even be there at all.

Luke even says "But I've got save you" and Anakin/Vader says "you already have Luke, you already have. Tell your sister you were right about me."

I have always wondered how Anakin, Young or Old, was there to begin with...
Only Obi-wan and Yoda had the training to become Force Ghosts.

Well it makes sense with just the original original trilogy but with the prequels it is just another one of Lucas' screw ups.

In ROTS, Yoda told Obi Wan that Qui Gon had come to him after death with the knowledge of becoming one with the Force.
It could be implied that the Emperor taught Vader, assuming he kept his word that he would do so, and that he did indeed learn it from Plagueis.

Preventing people from dying seems totally different from dying and becoming a force ghost though--plus the Emperor didn't come back as a force ghost, and the fact that Anakin came back looking like "his old self" before being turned (in both versions) seems to imply there aren't dark side force ghosts. Maybe part of the secret the Yoda and Obi-Wan learned was how to prevent other Jedi's spirits from dissipating into the force when they died, even if those other Jedi didn't know the secret themselves.

That's why the whole Lucas story about the films being all about Vader is pure junk as he never actually deals with the consequences of what he did my joining the dark side. I alwaays thought that Anakin said "you already have" because Luke pulled him out of the dark place with his final act being destroying the Emperor and Death Star - a good act that shows he isn't totally evil. It isn't redemption or atonement as he never actually faces up to what he did, he just did something good before dying.

With the force ghost, maybe it is a result of being at peace which is something a sith could never be. They are constantly suspicious of everyone and trying to work everyone where as a jedi can be at peace with the universe. Would explain why the Emperor never figured out the trick.
