I think Lucas probably should have had Yoda using only the electrical force power (or whatever it is called) and cut the lightsaber fighting out all together.

No offense to you Elvis (btw, I'm a big Elvis fan ), but none of us said any Force was involved. Ernest said Luke destroyed the Emperor. But Luke didn't destroy the Emperor - that was my only point, not whether or not any Force was involved.

Again, no offense, but Yoda's fighting style is irrelevant to what either Ernest or I were discussing (Ernest believes Yoda shouldn't be fighting because the Force is only for "knowledge and defense" and I believe that in order to defend himself from attackers, Yoda would indeed have to engage in fights - and win - and that's how he would become known as "a great warrior").

That's consistent with what the rest of us are saying; just that he wouldn't do it using a lightsaber.

Then Luke would say that he is looking for a Great Magician, not a Great Warrior!

Ah, okay. So you all disagree with Ernest that Yoda would never fight and agree with me that he would fight in defense only. Glad we cleared that up.

Seriously?

Luke only says he's looking for a "great warrior" because that's what he assumes Yoda is, because all he knows is that Yoda is the Jedi master who taught Kenobi.

Because that's all Kenobi's spirit told him.

Yoda vs. Dooku was the highlight of Attack of the Clones for me. Watching Yoda pull out his lightsaber for the first time was awesome

I don't mind Yoda using a 'Saber, he needed to in order to show ONE other reason why he is considered a Jedi Master, BUT he didn't need to be a damn jumping bean...

On that point I'm gonna have to disagree, but only because I notice that you were 7 when AOTC came out while I was 20. If I had been 7 I would have thought it was awesome, too.

No Yoda and the Emperor should have fought just more like this

I thought Yoda whipping out his "Saber was awesome... I was quickly proven wrong...
Green?
Jumping, flipping, hopping? WTF, he was just barely walking a second ago!
Don't tell me that he used the Force to invigorate him! Then he uses the cane right away again? No, It could have been a great fight, but it was just terrible!

lol you say "no" as though you're disagreeing with me but you're agreeing with me. I never said anything about Yoda fighting with a lightsaber. Whether he fights with a lightsaber or only by using the Force, then he would be fighting in some form.

I think you might be taking the term "fighting" a little too literal.

Then again, I don't know, since the prequels obviously threw away the chance of what could have been something interesting and just went with the easiest answer.

I really don't understand a lot of you. Every time I saw AOTC at the theater (which was a lot,) everyone in the theater was whooping and hollering when Yoda pulled out his lightsaber and even more so when he started jumping around. It was all anyone could talk about after the movie was over and in a good way I might add.
Now, everyone on here is saying its just one more thing that makes the prequels suck. I just don't get it.

Actually, I'm using the term broadly. That's why I never mentioned lightsabers specifically.

I can only speak for myself, but it was personally something I never really wanted.

I had a lot of conceptualizations regarding Star Wars back in the day, a lot of them deeply rooted in the state the franchise was in during the 1980s and 90s and how that fueled interpretation. The prequels and much of what's derived from them just kind of diffuses that.

For example, whatever happened to Dark Jedi? Nowadays when a Jedi falls to the Dark Side they automatically become a Sith. I miss when things were a bit more...multifaceted?

Deep down I suppose I just miss what Star Wars was before 1997/99.

You're right! Audiences did go crazy for that. Definitely the highlight of the movie. And that fact that he fights Christopher Lee is icing on the cake. I do have issues with the prequels but that was a good scene.

Why wouldn't Yoda possess a lightsaber? The OT certainly implies that he would.

"This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight."

"A Jedi's weapon."

"I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete."

You could make the argument that the Emperor would not have used one, based on his condescension for the weapon in ROTJ, but there's nothing to suggest that a great Jedi like Yoda would be above them.
