Only third on my list (after Revenge Of The Sith and Attack Of The Clones) but The Phantom Menace is still better than the boring Original Trilogy.

STAR WARS BLU-RAY AUDIO NEWS

By Vic Barry on Monday, September 06, 2010

Ahead of Invasion Cork (tickets up for grabs all week long) I got to catch up with Academy award nominee (and incredibly nice guy) Matthew Wood from Lucasfilm / Skywalker Sound. You can grab the full interview on iTunes or direct download it on the right of the screen. Regarding the Star Wars Blu-Ray release next year, Matthew told me that in 2004 he had to remix Episode IV for a 5.1 mix, and the whole thing had to be recreated from scratch from the original 1977 version of the movie. This will be the version that is the basis for the Blu-Ray by all accounts. There’s plenty more in the interview including the future of audio in the cinema, has it peaked or is there more to come as well as plenty of other Star Wars goodness and a little bit of an insight into Skywalker Ranch!

I think the thing with Jar-Jar is the character itself. We all know that his role is vital in that he essentially gave the power to Palpatine. The problem is that he is needless, over-the-top slapstick in what is otherwise supposed to be a serious story of a young slave who is torn away from his Mother, who is being manipulated from many sides and who has to deal with the death of his one savior (Qui-Gon). It is also the story of the beginings of galaxy-wide Emperial rule. Throw in Jar-Jar Binks... Half man-in-costume, half CGI, all (sorry to use the term) step-n-fetchit. Had Jar-Jar been a serious character, The Phantom Menace could have been a great film. Instead, it is generally looked at as one of, if not the weakest of the six films.

Once again, this thread is for discussion of the blu-ray release and any relevant information to said release.

For general discussion of the films, please go here https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/139...ussion-33.html

I thought that thread was dead?

In fact, mine was the last post, on 11/14.

I'm glad a lot of people are talking about the soundtrack. Usually it's all about the picture quality. For me sound is as much important(if not more) as image.

It's the official discussion thread for the films; the lengthy discussions that are had here about the films belong there.

This is for the blu-ray release, not a general discussion of the movies.

I'd have to agree with both of you. As much as I love a good image, sound is half the experience for me.

Yup... While I love a crystal image, the sound is what immerses you and truly brings you into the world of the film.

It's hard to imagine that some people will be listening through their TV speakers...

GL has allways said sound it's 50 percent of the motion picture experience. And I agree with that statement.

Nothing too spectacular, but no HTiB either. Right now, I'm running these components (I'm not checking model numbers)...

Marantz 7.1 channel receiver
Sony BD player (BDP S300 I believe)
Harman Kardon standard DVD player
Harman Kardon CD Recorder
Yamaha CD Changer
AudioSource Graphic EQ (between the CD player & recorder)
Polk Audio RTi series speakers
Polk Audio powered subwoofer

Nothing against Diesel, but he directed me to a different Star Wars thread for not limiting discussion to only the BD aspects of Star Wars. We've not only moved off of Star Wars BD chat, there isn't even Star Wars discussion going on here at all anymore.

Anyway, how do you like the Klipsch speakers, Ronin? I was thinking about Klipsch at one point, but found the sweet spot too limited due to the horn loaded tweeters. Have you found that an issue? You mention you sold the RW10 because it was silver... What finish are your other speakers (just curious)? Ours are all cherry.

I forgot to mention our display... It's a 1080p 46" Sony. Either a V or W series. I don't remember which, but I do remember the only difference at the time was the cabinet (one had a piano black bezel while the other was clear). Actually, I think it's the V series. The guts of the V & the W were exactly the same at that time. We went with the black because we figured cleaning would be easier. We've also got a PS3, a Wii and two 360s currently hooked up, but the PS3 & one of the 360s are in the bedroom with the PC.

Anyway, I too cannot wait to hear Jango's sonic charges in Clones. Other than the lightsabers, they are my favorite sound effect in any of the Star Wars films... Honestly, I like them better than the lightsabers. Damn, I think I'm gonna fire up the bedroom set & watch Clones right now. I think the DVD version of Clue is still in the player. Lesley Ann Warren looked good back then.
