The writing's on the wall for the PT. Just accept it and let it die. We'll all be better for it.

What does that even mean? The PT isn't going anywhere.

Follow the money. Always follow the money.
Disney is hands-off on Pixar and Marvel, Disney's hands-off approach to Pixar (which he still regards as his company) is why Lucas sold LucasFilm to Disney in the first place.

Man are we really rehashing this AGAIN?

I can't wait. How many people in here have said, "it's never gonna happen, Lucas will never allow it!" If it's this time or the next, it's going to happen. I think it's hilarious how much the PT lovers are afraid of it, knowing full well that the new Lucas universe doesn't hold a candel to the old one, and that Disney embracing the old ways means Lucas's modern childish revision of what wasn't broke in the first place is more or less going to get swept under the rug.

Afraid of what exactly? You act like the PT will no longer exist which is laughable. It's almost delusional that people here think member want to suppress the UOT. I think it's hilarious that you would jump to the conclusion that the PT is "dead" because of merchandising. Any set that would be released (full) would include the PT.

I'm all for the UOT getting released, but to see things posted like this just makes me LOL (which I hope was your plan).

I doubt you entitled fans will see the original versions any time soon. I could see it maybe being released in 2017 and I'm sure the next editions to be release will just be the remasters that Lowry did for the 3D conversions since the current Blu-rays aren't exactly reference material and would have looked terrible on giant cinema screens. I'm thankful that I'm a content fan and actually think that the originals have been improved with the special editions. I can't imagine waiting years for an inferior version of the films.

I'm not trolling, I'm just expressing my opinions.

Please feel free to pick my posts apart and point out exactly where what I'm saying could possibly be considered trolling. I'm serious, please do.

You are right it's not going anywhere. It darn sure will never be going to the National Film Registry as important to our cultural heritage like Star Wars and TESB.

So I guess liking the prequels and special editions is considered trolling yet insulting George Lucas, calling the special editions childish and downplaying the significance of the prequels to annoy their fans is perfectly fine?

Did I not make a legitimate statement? I said they would never be invited to be in the National Film Registry. Also along the lines of another poster about the OT being inferior cuts. Why did the National Film Registry turn down Lucas when he tried top pawn those off on them and he was kindly rebuffed? You see whenever that is brought up Lucas Fanboys sidestep that issue. Why did the Registry feel that only the originals were important? And to that same end Film Historians and fans of the originals feel the same way as the Registry. You call us entitled fans, so I guess it's ok for the Registry to feel that way and not the individual?

They usually wait decades after a film's release before adding it and they will want the theatrical cuts regardless of whether they are inferior or not. The special editions are still young and still have time to be entered. After all when first released in cinemas, the special editions were huge. The prequels were also huge so it would not surprise me to see them in there in a few decades.

But who is to say what is inferior? You? What is the criteria? The SE's will never be entered because they will never put both versions in. It is a very select group of films with only so many slots per year. The original two are held in very high esteem that none of the others will live up to, not even the ones currently under development. If the originals were released and marketed they would outsell even the box set that is currently out. I think many of you just don't realize how much these are wanted by the SCI FI/ SW fans community.

The creator seemed to think they were inferior. He's the artist, he decides when his vision is complete. He's even said himself that the original theatrical cuts were only half completed.

Like it or not, the prequels are culturally significant and made a huge impact on modern films and film making in general.

bingo, many a "protest" has gotten a studio to release another version of a film, but the OT star wars debacle has risen to a level unheard of in any other medium with INSANE amount of supporters... there's a REASON it has become such a phenomen with entire documentaries shot about the star wars OT not being released.
