In fact I've only encountered about 12 people total in my entire life (this includes "online") who prefer the destructive Lucas revisions to the OT and the miserable, incompetently written and directed PT.

Gee I wonder why this is.....

As a side topic technically all of this UOT talk should be in the "wish list" area. This thread was for the discussion of the already released blu-rays.

That remains to be seen, and is probably the $1million question.
Since there has not been much chatter about Disney approaching Fox about a buyout deal, maybe Disney will just see how Episode VII does, both theatrically & HV, to guage fan interest? It seems like Disney could just slowplay the whole thing until 2020 when Episode V & VI distribution rights would resort back to Lucasfilm, then Disney would only have to deal for Episode IV. I wonder if the buyout price from Fox would change that much, as you really can't release a set with A New Hope.
Then Disney still has the stand alone films, and the Rebels animated show, and possibly a live action show?
So maybe Disney will let Fox stay in the picture?
This whole process, and what will happen, is almost as interesting as the films themselves.

This thread:

Anybody remember hearing about those 4k restorations of the trilogy? Exciting stuff. I wonder what's in store.

Any precedent of Disney handling extended/director's cuts on home video? They seem to mostly stick with the theatricals of their own films.

My guess would be ultimately they will wait till all of the movies are out 7 - 9 (or a double dip if they acquire 4 - 6 the original versions from 77 - 83 midway through the new films releases) and then put them out all together. Right now all I own are the 2013 releases of 4 - 6 as I wasn't a huge fan of the prequels I may give them a go again if I can find them as cheap as I got 4 - 6. I just hate to spend a bunch on them just to find out a few years later here's 1 - 9 all together in a set.

Isnt Star Wars all about quadruple/multi dipping???

VHS box.....DVD Tin(OUT bonus Disc).....Complete BD(many Extras).....4K Restored All-Inclusive Extra Rock Set......etc.....

Most SW fans I bet over a certain age I guarantee have more than one set.

See, this goes back to question of who has the rights to alter a film - the director, producer, studio/owner. Disney would be altering it from what the director/producer wants regardless of how it was originally presented. Lucas sees it as a roughcut - most roughcuts are never seen by the general public. If Disney decided to reedit the movies into a totally different cut, would you be okay with that? After all the own them and don't need Lucas to okay it.

What would an All-Inclusive Edition actually have? I am waiting for the time where it will be released with the original 35mm mono, 70 mm mono, original stereo sound, etc - if it is All-Inclusive, I want everything.

I had them on on a recorded VHS tape back during a 90's USA TV network marathon, the 1997 re-release VHS, & 2004 DVD release (with original unaltered scenes) yes but held out on Bluray because I'm not that interested in the prequels.

That's a good question. Obviously there have been releases on LD/DVD. I'm not so sure about Blu. They seem to mostly stick to theatrical cuts.

.
If Disney want to change them, like maybe include Mickey Mouse somewhere in the movies along with Goofy and others to tie-in with their own Disney Universe, they have the right to do it, they own the movie.

My right is to just ignore that if I am not interested in it, it's that simple. No point spending the rest of my natural life raving like a baby about it in every forum I see with the Star Wars title.

At the end of the day, it's nothing but movies and I am the biggest Star Wars fans there is, slap Star Wars logo on something, I will buy it. But again it's not life and death and its only movies and if they made changes on them I don't like I can ignore it and not buy them. I just don't get the energy some put into this constant complaint about it. Then again it's their own time they are free to do as they wish, I only wish they would go and do it somewhere else

Neither Disney nor its wholly owned subsidiary Lucasfilm are under any obligation to release theatrical cuts of the OT.

We're just hoping they do.

Not only would we at long-last get the best possible editions of films we love, we'd get to watch the 'neener neener neener, ain't never gonna happen, even if gl dies his will has a 'go **** yourself fanbois provision' hahahahaha' run around in circles until their heads explode.

Talk about your classic win/win.

Or maybe they just clam up about it, lest they get an endless lecture from Uncle on how they're crap, etc, etc? The very fact you use that language to describe them basically tells me you're not open to any kind of civil debate about the subject.

And I have yet to meet anyone NOT online who didn't like the prequels or complain about them. I know plenty of kids who prefer them to the OT. These kids are smart kids too. I prefer the OT, but then again that's what *I* grew up with. People shouldn't have to apologize or feel denigrated for having a different preference.

One can certainly appeal to them to be responsible stewards of the films under their control but at the end of the day if their ideas of what constitutes responsible stewardship don't exactly line with my ideas of what constitutes responsible stewardship then oh well, it sucks to be me.

I'm not the one who cut the four billion dollar check. They're not my movies.

Really. I wasn't aware that "many" Content fans were now Not-Conent after Lucas cashed out. Personally I don't blame the guy. After all the grief he's had to endure, he probably could've set it up that the films stay in his family for a very long time. Certainly long after we are all gone. No, he did the right thing and gave it to the company most qualified(and wealthy enough) to further his vision.

How do I access posts from message boards that have been deleted?
How do I access "fan sites" that have been taken down?
If I could do those 2 things, I could show ample examples of "Lucas raped my childhood"....OR, you can perform a google search and see all the hits.
I think one whacked out site(obviously no longer exisits) made bumper stickers.
So now are you saying that this term never happened? Or you just want me to list every utterance of the phrase? Either way I think you see my point.

Are you serious? He brought that grief on himself. Anyone who feels pity for that man is a major sucker. You can't control the past. This isn't the Holiday Special that he'd like to destroy every known copy of. If you want to change it, be my guest. Just give people the original, classic, award-winning film.

He actually didn't "bring it on himself", he created his art according to his vision. I would like to have the UOT, but I respect the decision of the creator of Star Wars. Hopefully the day comes that the UOT becomes available, but I'm not losing sleep waiting for that day.

His so-called "vision" has clearly deteriorated beyond repair in the last 30 years, almost to Magoo-like levels.

I'm not either. #despecialized

I don't expect them to ever be released and, quite frankly, it won't kill me if they're not, at this point. There are other options.

But, make no mistake about it: he 1000% brought it on himself. Like I said, once it's released, you cannot change the past. It's impossible.

Again, in your opinion he brought it on himself, but I'm sure Lucas doesn't feel that way. For most Content fans they aren't going to see it like that, or not even care either way.
I think all artists are "putting themselves out there" when the reveal their art for public consumption. You take the good with the bad. Lucas had a vision, and stuck to it. For me, that trumps my own personal wanting of the UOT.

There's a very good interview with George Lucas on Vimeo. George Lucas: Maker of Movies. Some of the things are quite revealing considering the time of the interview (1971).
