George Lucas thought that Jar-Jar was a good idea as well. Doesn't make it so.

The Lion King had only the theatrical version on BD, even though a special edition exists on DVD and was released in IMAX. It was converted to 3D prior to its BD release, and some glitches remain on the 2D version (some clouds were missing, most notably, after Mufasa's spirit talked to Simba). Additionally, some remnants of the special edition carried over (a few shots were re-animated for the IMAX release that remain on the BD version). Personally, I attribute these to technical oversights than deliberate revisionism. I'll bet that if the OUT is indeed being restored, it will end up like The Lion King, at least if the 4k restorations are working backwards from the 1997 prints. In other words, Han will shoot first, the original emperor and Anakin will be there, no Jabba in ANH, but we might end up with some muted laser wounds, a missing spaceship, or even some CG X-wings and Bespin windows if they really aren't paying attention. |

Though I think we all prefer LFL start from scratch with the original negatives (because you know they wouldn't have been "permanently damaged" as LFL PR tried to tell people a few years ago in scanning for the SE's). It'd be a shame if LFL can't do a better job than Harmy did with the Despecialized trilogy (which in itself was an incredible feat). |

Like it or not, the prequels and Clone Wars HAVE reached a younger generation of fans which will be further bolstered by the Rebels cartoon, so liking Star Wars isn't solely the preserve of bitter men who are living squarely in the past. And by the way, that doesn't equate to me saying that 'the SE changes are AMAZING and that the UOT should never be released EVER', because most of the changes that are above and beyond mere technical upgrades are utterly superfluous and I'd buy the remastered UOT in a heartbeat. BUT I'm not so closed minded that I can't enjoy other aspects of Star Wars like the aforementioned prequels and the Clone Wars. [edit]And for all the people crowing about how Ep VII is returning to the glory days (to tap in to the aforementioned "bitter men living squarely in the past" demographic ![]() Last edited by Geoff D; 07-29-2014 at 06:58 PM. |

No he didn't. He's revised it and kept revising it until he finally had the smarts to remove it from his own hands.
Hell, if holographic movies are invented in 2075, I fully expect Lucas to rise from the grave, lumber into Lucasfilm, and screw with his movies some more, declaring, "The technology just wasn't available when I was alive. I always envisioned Star Wars as a fully immersive holographic experience. And this time, Greedo is going to kill Han, and Artoo is going to turn on his cloaking device behind that rock, because that's what I always wanted in the first place." Jesus. The level of self-delusion in this thread is sometimes mind boggling. ![]() |

I like Star Wars as a whole.
The prequels on their own really are bad films and I prefer the UOT version of the OT but the special editions don't take them from 5 stars down to 0. As a whole, prequels and special editions, I think it works and can watch them and enjoy it. I still skip Jedi Rocks every time, I would rather have electrodes placed on my genitals and given a shock than watch it again. |
