That's what I liked about the IMAX version of AOTC - a good part of that was removed.

General Grievous
"General Grievous was one of my biggest problems with Episode III before seeing the movie, and after seeing it that hasn't changed. Pictures of General Grievous led me to believe that he was a hell-demon of pure evil. Two seconds after seeing him onscreen in the theater showed that he was just a big, dumb idiot.

Nearly any possible potential fear of Grievous is eliminated as soon as he doubles over to begin hacking and wheezing. It is already relatively difficult to be scared of a robot with emphysema, but any remaining potential for fear is removed when he begins talking and it becomes clear that his voice is simply Triumph the Insult Comic Dog doing an impression of Watto from The Phantom Menace.

To further weaken Grievous's character, he is a tremendous coward: a scheming, double-crossing bad guy who would be better suited as the nemesis of a cartoon rabbit than the Jedi order.

It is also worthy of noting how bizarre it is that Grievous coughs as much as he does, considering he doesn't appear to have any lungs"

I must agree, Lucas threw this character in because...well he didn't have much else he could come up with. This was another needless character.

I am just saying from a CG perspective he looks very good. I wasn't commenting on the character himself, which, yeah has some awkwardness for whom he was supposed to be.

I actually agree with you. And the sad thing is he's depicted as having killed many jedi, collecting their lightsabers. But when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin come along he can't handle 2 jedi, let alone 1 as seen later in the film when not even seconds into this big confrontation the film sets up, Obi-Wan is chopping off 2 of his hands and he runs.

On-the-nose character names are nothing new in fiction particularly not in these kinds of adventure stories.
At least Skywalker sounds cool. General Greivous is just... I don't have the words. General Bad. That is literally his name.

Hilariously, his name is probably the 2nd thing I will always remember about that movie (after FrankenVader screaming NOOOOOOO)

That's a lot better than two of the names that Lucas reportedly suggested for a Sith villain in one of the cancelled LucasArts games...

Darth Insanious. And...wait for it....Darth Icky.

He was a brilliant character in the Clone Wars shorts. The Jedi were terrified of him until Mace Windu neutered him. Mace Windu was much more imposing in the shorts too.

Let's be fair - he is a genius. He really, really is.

He just does not have the gift of language. At first blush he is articulate, but that's the surface - his thoughts are often very jumbled from moment to moment.

I've been listening to the Blu-ray commentaries this weekend and I just cannot imagine what goes on in his head. He's infamous for contradicting himself, revising his perception of the history of the films, etc. - but while I've always thought that was in effort to present whatever narrative he wants to make at the moment, just listening to these - he contradicts himself regularly. Like, ten minutes later. So I think that perhaps it's a combination of the massive jumble in his head and articulating it - as well as the "well this was planned all along" stuff.

But he definitely is a genius, but like many geniuses - he needs a lot of support to make his visions clear.

Yes!!! I had forgotten how much more menacing Fett's original voice sounded. In comparison, Morrison sounded like he was suffering from a major food coma while recording his lines, maybe he was gasy?

Exactly and that's a crying shame! That Kiwi voice is just awful...in fact the whole clone thing based on Jango Fett = stupid! I miss the old days when Stormtroopers were just regular soilders....and all you ever heard aboutt he clone wars was just that..a catch phrase. No need to go into any details about it.

Original Boba Fett voice all the way.

I understand why it was changed in the 2004 Special Edition but the original voice sounds so much better.

Especially when he says "put captain Solo in the cargo hold".

His voice is so dark and menacing in the Theatrical Cut/1997 Special Edition.

If someone is talking about a scene or character in a movie and using similes or metaphors, that's pretty much prima facie evidence that they are stating an opinion about said movie. To interpret it as a stated fact when no such statement is made and fly into a rage over it is, well... typical of the internet sadly.
