Wait until Monday? Why? If the thread gets re-opened, this can be merged then. Relax.

I can see this thread being moved to the wishlist thread but as far as merging it or even closing it I don't think if should be. The other thread is for the Complete Saga and the individual releases of the PT and OT blu-ray sets. An UOT release would have nothing to do with those and it would probably keep that thread on course with just discussion about those versions.

Of course this is just my opinion and I am not in charge of those decisions.

I'm not sure why so many people get confused over who will release these. Nothing has changed in this regard since the Disney purchase of Lucasfilm.

It will be done exactly as before, they will produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by Fox, period.

Maybe this point should be a sticky somewhere?

Disney and Fox could have easily come to some kind of agreement for this new Blu-ray. Fox doesn't own those movies, just the distributing rights. Fox will definitely want some profits until their distributing rights end. This Blu-ray would sell like hotcakes and get everyone pumped for Episode Vll.

That's what I think. Look, next year the original cast is going to appear in a new Star Wars film, something unthinkable a year and a half ago. There is no better time to strike with this release than during the ramp up to Ep 7.

Both companies are business rivals but it's still business. If they have to get in bed with each other to each make some cashola on an existing piece of media they will. Their spend on this won't be that much, and the windfall will be many many times their investment.

Now, is this true? Who knows without a confirmation from either party. I'm waiting on that and still have my copies to view. Do I want it? Abso****inglutely.

^ This.

Yes, Fox could technically block a release... but why would they? They will reportedly lose the distribution rights to the majority of the films in six years (after which they will make nothing off of them), and demand/promotion opportunities will rarely be higher than concurrent with the Ep. 7 theatrical release.

Sorry but FOX could make plenty of money because they own the crown jewel to the entire endevour.

Disney's grand scheme is nothing without the original film.

And you can see this happening on the actual videos. Pre-1997 video releases attribute copyright to Fox and Lucasfilm for Star Wars and just to Lucasfilm for Empire and Jedi. Post-1997 video releases attribute copyright just to Lucasfilm for Star Wars, same as had always been the case for Empire and Jedi.

The best you can do is wait and hope that the mods step in and deal with him before he starts more trouble.
Yep. And did so while pointing at other people and crying that they're condescending when any basic perusal of that thread clearly show he was more condescending than anyone.

What does one expect from someone whose avatar is of the lamest character in the franchise basically: a pure marketing character devoid as any real "badassness" they'd like to think. After all he was killed by a blind guy while screaming like a little girl, after doing nothing. In both trilogies. Style over substance all the way.

I'm aware of Fox's rights to distribute Ep. 4/New Hope/Star Wars, whatever you want to call it, and my post states that. When I wrote "make nothing off of them", I was referring to the films that will lapse in 2020.

But I still maintain that the iron will never be hotter for them concurrent with the Ep. 7 release (which is the only film confirmed to utilize the original cast members), and that they will not balk at making some money now, while still not ruling out negotiations for further use of Ep. 4 later.

Since I am the one who got the thread locked I will try to be more civil and keep the snark to a minimum. Even though some of you make it oh so hard to do so.

I wonder if when Star Wars VII comes out, it will be "Cosmic Wars episode VII" (It was on an episode of The Simpsons) and it stated "Due to a rift in the space-time continuum, episodes I, II, and III never happened."

IF this does happen, there shouldn't be any reason to complain since the majority of everyone's needs will be met. I wonder if there will be a cry out for the 1997 SEs, pre-DVD alterations.

Honestly, I would love to see the OUT released on the big screen before Ep VII.

I hope the news is true. So many fans have been asking for this release for many years now.

I'm just thinking about the actual reality of what the Theatrical versions will look like in Blu-Ray quality. Wont we see a lot more matte lines and boxes around ships and things like the Emperor's slugs again? It took 3 rounds of SE's passes for LFL to finally fix those Emperor slugs I'd hate to see them return.

Anyway, the prospect of seeing SW once again with only Han shooting, original dialogue in ESB like and Lapti-nek is pretty cool.

In an ideal world I'd like to see the OT released proper and one final SE that actually addresses nagging issues and tweaks things more subtly like Adywan's revisited.
