This isn't going to happen people, it is time to move on. The only way they would be able to give us the OT is if they just upscaled those DVDs they did in 2006 to BD, but there would be no point since that would not even be actual BD quality.

There are plenty of better-than-DVD sources of the original trilogy. Including Lucas' personal Technicolor dye-transfer print of Star Wars. And the YCM Labs restoration from 1997. Only will on some parts, and lack of will on others have prevented these releases.

Really? And how do you know? It seems to me that Lucas destroyed the original film when he made his special editions. Unless they have a time machine to go back and stop him from doing so, I doubt they can do anything about that.

The article is reporting that the original source of the rumor earlier this week thought Disney had distribution of the entire series.

that myth was debunked years ago. he has the original splices and there are SEVERAL people with negatives and prints who have offered it for restoration. Lucas just didn't want to spend the effort

I don't know what these guys are smoking but they're missing the obvious with all this talk of Disney not being able to release the movies: technically that's true from a certain point of view, yet the distribution deal is between Fox and LFL, right? And who owns LFL? Exactly. If 'Disney is preparing a release' then that basically means that they, through LFL, are pulling the strings and that the movies will be distributed through Fox as normal.

As for Fox not wanting to piss off Uncle George, unless there's an actual contractual reason then why would they give a shit about releasing the originals against his wishes? The company that he freakin' created wants to release the originals, but Fox will say no out of loyalty to him? What kind of logic is that? He's sold LFL so he's out of that loop, he's all but retired as a filmmaker so no more box office smashes like, um, Red Tails, and I doubt they were happy that he sold LFL to Disney instead of giving them a crack at it. They'll want to make hay while the sun shines.

Yup. Fox has been a party to every home video release of the OT. It's not like working out one more distribution deal is some insurmountable obstacle.

Thinking about it, why would there even be a contract with Fox that says 'no originals'? LFL are the ones who create all the content in the first place, i.e. Fox can only release what they've given! So unless Lucas had the crazy foresight to build in a 'no originals' clause with Fox that's effectively against his own company (and remember, these deals would've been inked many years before he actually sold LFL), I call bullshit. Heaping great piles of it.
