Personally, I love AotC! You've got: Jango Fett, young Boba Fett, Padme in the hottest outfit, a great battle involving a bunch of Jedi, Anakin loses a hand, and a wedding!

That's just good, clean, fun!

Well......if there's one thing I think we can all agree on, it's that the prequels sure are one hell of an awesome contribution to the great legacy of the Star Wars films.

I was being sarcastic of course, but yes, I do love the prequels, just as I love the original trilogy as well

Even if TPM was an otherwise-excellent film aside from Jar Jar (and it really isn't) the mere presence of Jar Jar in a major pivotal role cements it's status as the laughing stock of the Star Wars franchise. People who know nothing about Star Wars know the world hates Jar Jar. Your mom knows the world hates Jar Jar.

People are basically indifferent towards AotC. They can take it or leave it or even forget it altogether. But people hate TPM.

Roger Ebert's review has little to nothing to do with how these films were received by audiences or commercially.

How old are you? I'm not trying to be insulting, I'm just sincerely curious to see if you're old enough to actually remember what people thought of these movies when they were first released.
Umm let me think.....um yeah I think so seeing how I was in line for Star Wars in May of 1977 (Los Angeles) when I was 12 years old. That qualify as old enough? Not sure...maybe I'm not

maybe thats how it happened.

well its a little hard to understand. we don't see them going to ball games or opening presents at christmas. the change from evil to good seemed kind of out of nowhere

man that would have been a good ending

Well I saw it 35 times from May of 77 to July of 78 since it played all year round save for about 4 months and they brought it back. That was pretty much the norm for me Sat Night Fever 7 times, Grease 10 times etc..had no life I guess. Spent most of my time at movies or Dodger games with my dad. Oh looks like Brent is the old man in the room!

people have Vader on their lists of greatest movie villains of all time.

is he a villain or just a hero who was a bit angry at the galaxy for a few years?

i can't honestly say he's a villain after ROTJ. he shouldn't even be on 'Greatest Movie Villains' lists.

Word of mouth you know...Sith was almost just as pitiful as Clones. I have no idea why so many think Sith is some great film as it has the same amount of problems as Clones. Now at least TPM looks and feels somewhat (loose term) like a Star Wars film and did a nice 430 Million in 1999 dollars.
maybe people just grew up and realized the whole Star Wars thing isn't all that important anymore. or maybe Star Wars just isn't as good as they remember when they were younger. it happens with lots of tv shows and movies.

the new movies will make money but the older fans will hate them because they won't be like the originals and younger people today really don't care about jedi and Sith.

they'll make a profit, but no more than your average marvel movie

I suppose being but a child when originally seeing the Trilogy helped me in my acceptance of the Vader/Anakin thing. At that age, you generally take things in black and white, and less so in areas of grey. I simply took at face value that Vader was the ultimate villain and Anakin was a good and noble Jedi who fell to the Dark Side and ceased to exist until Luke brought him out again from the depths of the creature he'd become.

I love that easter egg (look at the gangsta troopers nodding along in the background) but I wish they'd carried on with the gag reels like we got on I and II.

I was 4. I always wished I could have seen the OT in theaters. Unfortunately the first one that I saw was Jedi in '83...great experience. I missed out on the '97 rerelease because my kids were 2 and 3 at the time and we couldn't get a sitter. Hopefully we'll get another theatrical release before Ep VII.
