what if its salty to one person but not to others? there is no way to review movies or food. critics are useless.

is that clear enough?

Somewhat unrelated question...Didn't Lucas believe the end of the world was coming soon, in 2012 or soon after? Do you think that had anything to do with him selling the rights, even a possible a future release of the UOT? Maybe he thinks it won't happen in the long run anyway...

That was a rumor back around 2010 or something. I don't think it was ever confirmed; Lucas may have even denied it.

There are also other new canon things, the first thing to actually fall under the new canon was a serial story printed in Star Wars insider and it actually started a few weeks before the canon announcement. The Darth Maul comic should be canon too.
Well I was partially right. I knew it started out as a part of the old canon, but it just wasn't published yet.

It was originally supposed to end the Empire and Rebellion series that is now part of the Legends continuity, but they made it into a standalone novel and made it a part of the new canon.

Yeah, none of it is canon, but they already are doing the original Marvel series in an Omnibus format - under Marvel Legends. I'm quite looking forward to it - it's a little pricey, but it's also 880 pages LOL.

cool but i'm over the age of 7 and i don't need a critic to tell me what movies are good and bad. i'm just saying critics are kinda useless.

why don't you just try watching a movie and see if you like it? don't listen to what others say. opinions are okay but when a critic says a movie sucks after all the hard work put into making it by professionals i'd like to know how much time they've put into the field they are criticizing.

anyway, critics say AOTC's sucks but i loved it. perfect example that critics are useless.

That said, I have never listened to any critics other than my social circle.
And even then, we mostly talked about how the film was, wat interested us, what didn't and what we would do, if it was ours to make the story better, for us. We never told another in our group to not see a film. unless it was something like SpiceWorld.
yeah its nice to talk about movies and say whether you like it or not. i just hate critics who say how good or bad a movie is like its written in stone. whatever they think of a movie is fine but is really little importance to anyone.

But to be fair, that is their actual job. That's the whole point of the profession.

ummmmmmmmmm, they never say it's written in stone... all critics have disclaimers that say it's their opinion only... giving a waffling type of review where they try to hedge their bets and please everyone is NOT a good way to write something. state your opinion and stick with it.

Attack of the clones is a terrible film by Star Wars standards. I would say that is pretty much written in stone.

Attack of the Clones is definetly my least favourite Star Wars film.

Anyone know of any critics who actually chisel their reviews in stone? Just curious.

Right. I mean, even without a disclaimer, I feel the simple nature of criticism broadly implies that what they're writing is their opinion. Art is largely subjective. To me critics have value not as some authoritative opinion clearing house, but rather their value is found in the same as any other writer of non-fiction: do they have something interesting to say?

I find movies interesting, and so I enjoy reading critics who are intelligent and bring interesting perspectives in writing about movies.

Because most people (read: everyone) has a limited amount of time and resources? I don't have enough time to personally watch, read, play, eat, drive, drink, etc etc every single thing that exists so that I can know if it will be worth it to do so or not. I can either waste hours watching a terrible movie, or within seconds find out that literally everyone thinks it's terrible (except you apparently ) and then make better use of said time.

You say you're over the age of 7, but then proceed to make a statement that someone under 7 would be more likely to make.

I think she's just sharing some (admittedly unpopular) opinions. People are trying desperately to convince her that critics have merit and that Attack of the Clones sucks. If she doesn't think so, what are you gonna do?

I know: Argue about it for ten pages.

Yeah, I've never cared for critics or what some of the net chumps have to say. I loved it too! But, I love all the movies and the TV show as well.

We will discuss it, that is what we will do. No desperation; just the exchange of disparate opinions. Sorry if that seems extreme to you. Some are easily offended, I guess.

If you don't want to contribute to a discussion (which is implied by your complaint of the existence of the discussion) then why even post in the thread?

There's one thing in Revenge of the Sith that I've never been entirely clear about. During the end fight with Yoda, Sidious says "Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us". So what exactly is his plan with this?

If Vader had become the most powerful Sith ever instead of getting his arms and legs hacked off, surely he would have killed Sidious eventually to become the master? So why would Sidious want to take on an apprentice that will eventually become more powerful than he is? Or was his plan to eventually kill him once he'd served his purpose? Any ideas?
