^ Yeah, it doesn't bother me if a few of the faceless net nerds didn't like it. I like it just fine.

I doubt he told him that he himself learned the secret. That would be admitting he was a Sith right there and then. He just implied that Plagueis's apprentice was taught the technique and that he killed him. And he never implied that he himself was the apprentice either.

Sure he did. I explained several posts ago.

Yep! It has some very good parts but also the worst parts of the whole thing.

Yeah, I've got it at 6 out of 6 in dead last place... Really disappointing and non sensical in several areas.

My take on this scene, just based on his facial expression, was that he was partially gloating about killing his former master. That wicked grin if his when he mentioned the irony of the situation was a dead giveaway. I also thought that his mention of using the midichlorians to create life was in effect a subtle hint that he either fathered anakin or was responsible for his "immaculate conception." Surprised very few people picked up on that. The Skywalker Jedi line may all stem from Darth Sidious.

Yeah, and that's something which may well play a part in the new trilogy thereby validating the prequels once and for all, much to the chagrin of a thousand disgruntled fanboys.

The problem with the AOTC detective story is that there isn't really a big payoff.

I mean, right at the start of the movie you have Padme saying "I bet Dooku is behind it." She was right - there was no twist or anything.

The problem with AOTC full stop, is that it's f***ing boring. Yeah, Phantom Menace has all the political jargon, but I didn't fall asleep during it.

The Naboo scenes and the Tatooine scenes are the only ones that bore me. The rest of AOTC is some of my favorite star wars.

That's why the IMAX cut is so sought after.

Sidious was content with being Plagueis' Apprentice.
Plagueis learned how to create life through the Force.
He wasn't able to control where it happened though.
Sidious, learning of his master's plan to replace him with his new more powerful, newly created apprentice (once found) decided to kill Plagueis.
Sidious gave up hope of ever finding the Force-created life.
When Qui-Gon brings Anakin to Coruscant, Sidious realizes that not only did his master succeed, but that it is now in his grasp and tries (eventually successfully) to the Dark Side of the Force.

Was that Plagueis novel included in the canon purge? I take info from that book with a big grain of salt, although I hear a lot of SW fans liked it very much.

I haven't read the Darth Plagueis novel yet.
But I do believe that it was jettisoned into the "Legends" line.

If you guys read the Novel for Episode III, the Plagueis stuff and Anakin's turn are way more fleshed out.

First, after the big reveal in Empire, he turned to me with a shocked look and said, with utter desperation in his voice,
[Show spoiler]"Darth Vader isn't really Luke's dad is he? He's just telling him that, right?"
I just thought to myself, that's why you watch them in release order with newcomers. I loved it... so fun to experience that "moment" again with a first timer.

Second, my son LOVED Phantom Menace, especially... wait for it ...Jar Jar. He cracked up every time he was on screen. Oh, and he didn't mind the Senate scenes at all because, admittedly, they are visually stunning. He loved all the floating pods and different aliens. He reacted the in the same way as he did when we watched the cantina scene in ANH for the first time. So... while I've always personally really liked TPM more than most, watching it with my young son really helped me appreciate it a little more than before.
That must be one bright boy. I don't think my 5-year-old grandson could handle Star Wars as yet - he'd be alternatively bored and scared.

I finally got the original trilogy on Blu-ray today for $35 at Walmart... I'm not sure if I regret it or not. I love these films, but the stupid changes George Lucas made to them is probably going to bug the shit out of me.

Curse you Walmart and your acceptable prices.

Really? I was 5 when I was taken to see the original films in a special Triple Feature at the cinema. Loved every minute of it and made me suitably obsessed with the films for 20 years... until Attack of the Clones and the first DVD releases knocked that out of me.

Same here but I was 4 when I remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back at the drive-in. My daughter will be 4 next month and she has seen all of the Episodes except for Ep III. She loves it and even though the Emperor scares her a bit, she still loves these movies!

You didn't forget. You wrote the exact same post a few minutes earlier in the Star Wars VII thread.
