He was preparing his soul for the afterlife since he sensed his own end and like a jedi, accepted it openly.

HBO Latin America renewed its contract with Disney and in November that channel will show an incomplete Star Wars marathon without Episode IV A New Hope.

You're way off. I think he had to be in his mid to late 40s.

He is 60.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Qui-Gon_Jinn

As for why who did what? Jinn is meditating with the patience of a Jedi Master and possibly preparing in the event he does not win the battle. Maul is pacing like a caged animal wanting to pounce and Kenobi is young and impatient but trying to follow his master's lead. When Jinn goes down, Kenobi's patience evapourates and he tries his best not to let emotion overtake him while Maul basically taunts him from the other side of the energy barrier. And yes, the older Kenobi knows exactly what's about to happen when he sacrifices himself to help the Rebels escape.

I said about.
Lucas said Qui-Gon in Ep1 was about the same age that Obi-Wan was in Ep4.
The explaition given as to why they look so different is that Qui-Gon was constantly active and in better shape than Obi-Wan was at the same age.

Plus those Tatooine suns are just HARSH on your complexion.

Owen & Beru looked like people who also spent way too much time in the suns.

Ah, that old chestnut. Good job Tatooine wasn't an ice planet, eh?

[edit] I suppose they'd all have snow blindess and frostbite instead

Yeah, I think there are many ways you can explain it if you want to. Different people age differently, a more primitive, self-reliant lifestyle in a harsh environment, etc. Another possible one, mental health affects our physical health, and it's not at all unlikely Obi-Wan didn't feel too good after what went down in ROTS.

I think you're over thinking this. He gets a forced break in the fight. So what do you do? You breathe or meditate to relax your body and regain your composure and strength. Maybe he's thinking what his next move should be. Simple as that. It's not a "rule" or "protocol". It's not like a boxing match where if you knock someone down, the referee sends you to your corner while he counts down.

Obi was young and impetuous at the time of that duel. Rather than following his master's example and gathering strength and recentering himself he instead chose to stand their anxiously desiring to kill Maul. Obi wasn't behaving like a Jedi should, and you can tell he is still very much a padawan. Maul didn't meditate cause he was basically a rabid pitbull of the darkside. All he could think about was killing the Jedi. That's why he is pacing back and forth like a hungry predator. Qui-gon was a Jedi Master. He was neither anxious nor in a hurry to rejoin the fight. He trusted the Force and gave himself over to meditation.

That break in the duel tells the viewer quite a bit about each of the combatants.

Funny thing I live in a desert environment and certain people I work with, who are only in their late 40s/early 50s, look weathered and beaten that way...much older than they should.

I can only imagine what it would be with 2 suns!

I can attest to this. I work outside in a rough dusty environment 10 hours a day year round and after five years it's definitely done a number on my skin and face. I have more lines and wrinkles than any 24 year old should.

It's no wonder Obi looks like he aged 40 years in only 20 years. What with two suns and all that grit and dirt and heat beating at his skin.

Now that we're on this topic, how would you guys rank the top 5 Light Saber fighters in SW?

For example, it seemed like Maul was pretty good, as he fought off 2 Jedi simultaneously. I've never seen anyone else pull that off in any SW film. However, he did it with a double light saber. Does that make it less impressive? Or are double light sabers extremely hard to use, making it even more impressive?

That's an easy list for me and I'm going to leave the EU out of my list:

1) Yoda
2) Count Dooku
3) Darth Maul
4) Obi-Wan Kenobi
5) Anakin Skywalker

Haha! Okay, I thought I saw it, very briefly, while browsing on my phone earlier.
I think all the lightsaber battles are epic, so I would be hard pressed to choose any single as the best. The sound, the colors, all just amazing!

Dooku was much more skilled with a lightsaber than Obi-Wan, Vader, and Mace. I guess he wasn't part of the poll.
