I have never seen From Star Wars to Jedi, but I think it was freaking dumb that the Empire of Dreams was not included with the bD.

Its pretty obvious he changes his tune constantly. He helped create a great trilogy in theaters, but that spiraled out of control as you see a man go from visionary to the same villain that he fought against in his younger days. A legacy tainted by a saddening case of clinical OCD and turning his own fans against him. Just because some of us disagree with how he's tinkered and changed and retconned his own material later in his career doesn't mean we cant admire and respect what he originally created

Elvis was referring to GL post-1997 and not the GL of the OT era, of which the latter has absolutely nothing in common with the former. As such, the appellation is indeed accurate.

On a side note, would your beloved PT have ended up as anything other than a commercial failure (on top of the artistic and critical failure it undoubtedly was) had it not been piggybacking on the positive brand equity of the OT (even considering that said equity was already somewhat damaged by the SEs)? A hint to the answer is spoilered below:

Hilarious. I love how all the hate spewing fans (if you can call them that) have conjured up this version of Lucas that bares no resemblance to the man at all. Keep it up. It's really funny.

Well, here's the thing: who said it was my 'beloved?' I'm guessing you mean that pejoratively. It's these kinds of assumptions about how other people think that make you say irrational things. You don't know how I think or what I think. How much or how little I like anything and to what degree. But I'll defend an artist's right to create whatever he wants to create however flawed it may be. And it doesn't have to end in some entitled all-or-nothing mentality which makes an artist a 'clown,' a 'hack,' an 'idiot,' or any other overly dramatic label that gets leveled at Lucas or other directors who make mistakes or have failures. It's short-sighted. But I get that you're wounded over what he's done to your memories of his earlier movies. That's legit and I feel your pain. But in the end, again, here you are.

But so there's no mistaking me- I've always liked what Coppola said regarding his creative process and I'm gonna have to paraphrase: "I've had a lot of failures, but I've had some really interesting failures." I enjoy watching a lot of them, but it doesn't make them any less failures. And it doesn't mean I'm not aware of it. And it doesn't mean Coppola is a 'clown.'

Have you ever seen that The Fans vs George Lucas documentary? It was interesting as it gave some great points (such as Lucas fighting to keep Turner from altering black and white movies), but it was mostly just a *****fest to George Lucas for not giving the fans what they are entitled to.

He had the idea and I credit him with that, his wife made the script work and the best film is the one he had the least to do with

"Superfluous" describes most of these changes. We already knew what Vader was thinking through his body language.

I think Lucas' biggest fault is his failure to understand that film is inherently a collaborative medium. They aren't created in a vacuum.

Or in other words, he shouldn't try erasing other people's contributions to "his" movies.

At the end of the day they are his films, thus he can do with them what he wants.

The funny thing here is that nearly everyone dissing him has clearly purchased his redux versions. So they call him names while giving him their coin. And they fail to see the irony in that. I love armchair filmmakers with a sense of entitlement.

According to George Lucas, he can't >>>

"American works of art belong to the American public; they are part of our cultural history.
People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society."

You mean this thread hasn't already moved on to Episode VII hate? Wow, entitled fan must get getting old or just doesn't care that much anymore.

Love my 6-film BD set, and can't wait to start adding more Episodes to it.

For the last time, he's referring to people WHO AREN'T THE CREATORS OF THE ART in question. A director has the right to alter a work if he/she sees fit and to only release a version that they feel is the most complete version of what they created.

The rumors of a OT BD box has died. I wonder if it might still happen before EP7.

Blah blah blah, I just watched the theatrical cuts of Empire and Jedi the other day and I don't remember "Directed by George Lucas" anywhere in the credits. He was the producer so by that logic the movie studios, book publishers and music studios should be able to alter their artists work since they paid for them to be made.

Not only that but if he really wanted that in there, unlike the graphical enhancements implemented later, it could've been done the first time. Choices like that confound me.
Either way, if he wanted to keep tinkering, fine but give people a choice. The Blade Runner Collector's Edition set being the best example.
