Courts eat that stuff up. There's a lot of room for abuse in most contracts and all bets are off when you go into a courtroom, and if Fox financed a movie 40 years ago and gave Lucas a great deal of control a couple years later and that control was absorbed by another companies decades later and that company basically did anything that was demonstrably not done in good faith then Disney could find the whole thing blowing up in their face.

That's why this whole debate is so nonsensical. Yes Fox controls the original film by all credible accounts. Yes Disney paid $4 billion for an incomplete franchise, but there's nothing to suggest that Fox or Disney are scheming to sabotage what the other controls.
YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT A DISTRIBUTION DEAL IS. And now I think you are either willfully obtuse or you're just trolling me. Good night, sir.

Default Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Original & Prequel Trilogy - Sept 16, 2011 - Re...

It's not a distribution deal. Fox financed Star Wars in the 70s, it's a Fox title from top to bottom just like most other Fox titles produced under the same circumstances, and there is literally no credible evidence that the situation has changed at any point since 1977.

You can't just throw jargon around to try to sound smart. Distribution deal! America!

Other than the COPYRIGHT CHANGING IN THE MOVIE'S CREDITS from 20th Century Fox to LucasFilm Ltd. and at the same time, the L.A. Times reporting Lucas finally got ownership of SW in exchange for a 20 year distribution deal? Wooo! That's one hell of a coincidence!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a cliff to drive off of.

You're just repeating the same nonsense.

1: NYT was smart enough to report that as an unconfirmed rumor, and it has never been confirmed in the last 17 years.

2: several movies have copyright info in the credits that has little to nothing to do with who currently controls the movie.

But keep trying. Your screenshots of the end credits were cute.

Are you still claiming that Fox owns Star Wars outright?

Here's some more light Googlin'...

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr...ar-wars-527383

Working with Lucas’ lawyers at Latham & Watkins, McCarthy's team researched all copyright assignments and distribution agreements. The team eventually determined that all the important copyrights were intact and available to sell to Disney, save for distribution rights for the original Star Wars film, which 20th Century Fox maintains even after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm closed Oct. 30.

Yes, the film itself (which is what we've been discussing this whole time) is still firmly under Fox's control, which your post so helpfully supports.

Disney can make underwear and chewable vitamins and snow shovels and anything else they want from the original film. Want a Grand Moff Tarkin waffle iron? Write a letter to Disney. Want to buy it on a DVD or Blu-ray or see it in a movie theater? Ask Fox. It's their movie.

It's flimsy to the extreme and you have reports from entities that are every bit as credible staying Fox owns the film outright with confidence within the past two heads which should supersede a questionable rumor from 17 years ago in the eyes of any rational person.

I saw your hilarious armchair copyright debate with your screenshots earlier. A couple of you guys definitely had yourselves convinced. You had a nice little consensus going. Too bad it wasn't correct.
Are you still claiming that Fox owns the film itself?

Yes or no?

I don't remember if I've listened to the audio commentaries on the OT Blus/DVDs. I'd better get on that.

Back to you, everyone.

Do you know the difference between owning a newspaper and hiring people to distribute it for you? Do the people delivering the newspapers get to do it whenever they want? Can they tell the newspaper owner when they can or can't publish?
