Furthermore I doubt the author of that article would like it if someone took his article and put it on another website in which he didn't get money from clicks/hits.

Increasingly high-quality home video has created an absurd and unwarranted sense of entitlement in the last couple decades. 100 years ago seeing a play wasn't a lifetime guarantee that you'd have a pristine copy of that play to revisit. 50 years ago watching a movie in a theater wasn't a promise or an implied contract that you'd be able to watch a comparable copy on a home display. Authors and artists freely modified their works, and media that was once widely available became unavailable, whether intentionally withdrawn or quietly dropped from distribution.

The following fact is beyond debate: paying for a movie ticket in 1977 or buying a VHS copy of a movie before 1997 does not put any entity under any obligation to continue to offer that same experience to you later in life. Don't get me wrong, it's nice when they do it. I love releases like Blade Runner and Close Encounters that give viewers their choice of versions, but I'm not naive enough to think I'm owed that choice. If you saw the original unaltered Star Wars in 1977 you got what you paid for.
Wrong on all counts....lets not go down that road again. I have hated winning this argument since 2011. I think the poster posted the link just to show that what's going on is getting more and more coverage. Making the front page of Yahoo is pretty big.

You can't just breeze in with nothing and proclaim yourself the winner, especially in such a clear-cut argument.

Want to experience the Star Wars you grew up watching on VHS? Last I heard VCRs were still legal.

I hate this, but I agree with you on the bolded...

HOWEVER!
We shouldn't have to be relegated to just watching it on inferior, out-dated old tech!

I basically find it shocking that (as I type this) 72% of users decided to own the prequels when they had an opportunity not to...only 6% bought the original trilogy?

Wow, that's kind of insane. I had to double check to see if I was correct at reading the poll.

Actually you didn't read it correctly. You forgot to add the 1% who bought the prequels only to your total.

What's shocking about wanting the set with an extra disc of bonus features?

Well, you're the one who started with that whole thing last time where you insulted somebody by saying they were butthurt which (big shock) escalated into the same back and forth arguing that you always claim you can't stand.

So forgive me for initially thinking "Oh crap, this again!?" and not realizing it was just a joke directed at nobody.

I find it annoying that they skipped over the actual anniversary of Star Wars' release (May 25) right there in the same month just for the sake of making a dumb pun.

Bob Iger: Today I would like to announce the date of the release of the original Star Wars trilogy on blu-ray in their theatrical versions that so many millions of people first fell in love with all those years ago. As a bonus we have retconned the prequel trilogy out of continuity and will be remaking those shortly.

Crowd cheers

Wait, wait I have more great news, there is a dunk tank in the lobby with George Lucas bound in chains and sitting on the chair.

If the proceeds from the dunk tank went to charity he'd probably do it.

Exactly. The primary reason that I bought the 9-disc "Saga" set back when it was on sale for $60 @ Amazon UK was to get legit copies of the 3 old-school documentaries (The Making of Star Wars, SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back, and Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi).

While "The Making of Star Wars" was quite easy to find (most commonly in the VHS format), "SPFX" and especially "Classic Creatures" weren't. There was that 1982 "Making of SW + SPFX" Laserdisc released Stateside, but the only way to get "Classic Creatures" was to buy the Japanese LD of it (which usually costs at least as much as the "Saga" BD set currently).

Speaking of old Star Wars documentaries, I finally found an inexpensive copy of the Japanese laserdisc of "From Star Wars to Jedi" (which was excluded from "Saga" set for the sake of revisionism unknown reasons) so now my collection is complete until Disney finally puts out the OUT on BD.

What I don't get is why Lucasfilm would celebrate May 4th as Star Wars day when that was for a release of an inferior incomplete version.

Because right-thinking fans usually associate 1/31/97, 9/21/04, and 9/16/11 (the respective dates of each further corruption of the OT) with sackcloth and ashes, not celebration.

That's definitely my personal favorite of the old star wars documentaries. And it's recently been posted on the star wars youtube channel. I too would love for it to be on the OUT blu ray set (assuming they finally release it).
