Wow, that's kind of insane. I had to double check to see if I was correct at reading the poll.
To be fair it's the only way to get those 3 bonus discs which are slammed with content. I thought it was worth it alone for the 97 minute Star Wars spoofs feature.

You're obviously easily shocked.

I have a question to all my fellow Star Wars fans. From all corners of this great big thing we call the Internet, the one biggest consensus is that Return of the Jedi is terrible. BUT, I disagree, I think it's awesome. It shows the redemption of Darth Vader. It's the first time we hear the real name of Vader, Anakin Skywalker. We see Luke finally ascend into the rank of Jedi. We find out that Luke has a sister, which gives us hope for future Jedi from her future babies. So it's a little incest-y, so what? It's not like brothers and sisters never kissed on the lips before. We see Luke's mastery of constructing a lightsaber (we don't actually see him construct it, but it's mentioned he did). We get to see Leia and Han confirm their love for each other. We get to see cute furry bears known as Ewok. And we get to see big bushy eyebrows of goodness as Darth speaks his final words "Tell you sister, you were right."

So how come the collective Internet seems to hate the movie?

I don't hate Return of the Jedi. But to me it's clearly the weakest of the 3 originals. Many of the action scenes especially the ones on Endor dragged too long. Also, the destruction of the Death Star felt so anti-climatic to me. We had already seen that in the first one except this seemed far easier. And the whole part where they meet the Ewoks was kind of boring to me as well. Best part were the scenes with the Emperor, Luke and Vader. But they were not enough to save the film IMO.

Its not terrible, in fact its quite good - but its far and away the weakest entry in the OT.

I do like "May the Fourth" as "Star Wars day", but May 25th will always be the TRUE Star Wars day to me.

Bonus Disks go a long way....
I'd rather not own 4-6, but that's only because of how they look.

Until The Phantom Menace, Return of the Jedi was my favourite.

That is how most holidays work, they're not celebrated on the actual day anymore. Just look at Christmas. lol!

I'll have to watch it again, but I thought he just referred to him as "your father" when talking to Luke, and "Darth" when talking to Vader.

Nope, he even calls him Ani!

Ani was a good friend...

[Show spoiler]I know, it really is "And he was a good friend."

So what you said was true, from a certain point of view.

Honestly, for quite awhile, Jedi was my favorite of the original trilogy. I've never had a problem with the Ewoks, but I can understand why some people don't like them. I never really liked Leia being Luke's sister, but I just figured they needed a reason for her to end up with Han instead of Luke. I also never had a problem with having a second Death Star. The only part that slows the movie down a bit for me is Jabba's palace. Sometimes I want to just skip to when they're headed for the Sarlac pit.

That line's in Return of the Jedi: Anakin Skywalker wasn't named in the films until Episode VI, where it's mentioned twice by Ben and once by Luke. In SW and ESB Anakin is exclusively referred to as "your/my/his father."
