Not sure if anyone has ever posted these, but here's the custom metal SW DVD cases I picked up online many years back. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the guy who produced them! Think they set me back $100 US.

One change I really hated was for the 2004 Special Edition, when they reshot the Emperor Hologram with Ian McDiarmid replacing the original footage with Clive Revill from 1980. They didn't even bother to change the end credits either.

The main reason for why George Lucas had more changes made to the Original Trilogy in 2004 and 2011 was because he wanted them to have a better connection with the Prequel Trilogy.

When it comes to the three Special Edition cuts, I'd say the 1997 Versions are the best, simply because there is no prequel garbage in them. I do however HATE the ridiculous scream they added when Luke lets go of the antenna on the bridge of the reactor shaft on Cloud City. I was happy that they removed that for the 2004 Special Edition.

I do have the LaserDisc Box Set of the 1997 Special Edition Versions since they were never released onto DVD.

But in the end I have and will always prefer the Original Theatrical Unaltered Versions and I really hope that they get fully restored and released on Blu-Ray later this year before The Force Awakens gets released to theaters in December.

That would be the work of Paul Champagne!!

He does great work and now does quite a few blu-ray sets.

Those custom cases are really stunning. When the Original Unaltered Trilogy finally comes out in glorious high definition, I hope the packaging is stunning and utilises much of the classic artwork. These films had brilliant posters.

The reason I picked those two things is that they (as films) tie the PT to the OT in ways they never should have. That alone is forcing the viewer to acknowledge the existence of those inferior films. I have no desire to see Hayden Christensen in anything that came out when he was 2 years old. You want to have your PT fine...you want to tie that crap together with the original trilogy then that is fine as well but then you had better release the version without it. I personally hate the 97 SE's but at least they are not in anyway shape or form tied to what happened in the PT.

I agree with you. I also hate the two alterations you picked. Changing Boba Fett's voice and removing Sebastian Shaw's head and replacing it with Hayden Christensen's was asinine.

I remember reading a few years ago that when George Lucas created the 1997 Special Edition Versions of the Original Trilogy, it was simply him going back and creating alternate versions of the films that would represent his original vision of he intended the films to be. But then for the 2004 DVD and 2011 Blu-Ray release he wanted to make more changes because he felt that the Original Trilogy should connect better to the Prequel Trilogy.

I'm hoping to score a good deal on an AC-3 Demodulator so I can watch my 1997 Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy LaserDiscs with their 5.1 Dolby Digital Mixes.

Hopefully if Disney does restore the Unaltered Versions they create 5.1 Mxies for them as well.

Guess he should've had Padme still alive until Leia was "very young," then!

That was so stupid on Lucas's part. Lawrence Kasdan & George Lucas wrote the script for Return Of The Jedi and it worked perfectly. Leia tells Luke that she does remember her real Mother but just some images & feelings.

Then he solely writes the screenplay for Revenge Of The Sith with Padme dying shortly after Luke & Leia are born. I wonder if he realized that he had messed up on what he and Lawrence Kasdan had written for Return Of The Jedi.

He probably didn't care. The movie was going to make millions and kids would buy the merchandise despite the series making any kinds of sense.

Thats probably why he chose to make a Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. He knew he'd milk in even more millions of dollars.

Define irony:

Someone wants unaltered editions, yet wants an altered soundtrack.

No OT STAR WARS film was 5.1 on release.

Yea, I would vastly prefer the artwork to use the original, iconic posters. It would certainly be fitting and just plain bad ass.

Only the original poster art will do if they are the Orignals. None of that Struzan crap! OMG those were some flugly posters..

I don't care at all about 5.1 at all! Saw it in 1977 thru the summer of 1978 35 times in Dolby Stereo that that's just fine with me. Give me matt lines and whatever else. Just give me in 1080

What I meant was if Disney locates all of the audio elements from 1977, 1980, and 1983 they could restore them to the best quality currently available and put together terrific 5.1 mixes. I'd also like if they include the original theatrical Stereo Mixes for each film. Apparently the Mono Mix for Star Wars (1977) was very different from the Stereo Mix and should be included as well.

I'm sure they'd avoid using any audio material from 1997, 2004, and 2011.
