But still, we shouldn't just accept that as a fan of his film. As fans of the film medium, pressure should be there so that he releases the OT.

We aren't sheep, we can say "No". Ok, so Lucas prefers the revisited version. That's fine. But he should release the original version alongside them for the sake of history and preservation.
That makes a lot of sense, I agree we have a voice, and yes he should release the originals alongside it. But don't we have them already, the DVDs? If he does, the only difference between the DVD and the Blu-ray is that they will be 1080p, that's it, nothing more. At least that's what my thinking is.

Again, you're taking that quote entirely out of context and twisting it to support a flawed argument.

The whole point of the testimony was about people other than the creator altering films.

Yeah, they are there on dvds...in 4:3 pan & scan (I don't know what the audio is like either). A bit of a joke really, considering how Star Wars is (or was) closely associated in using state-of-the-art tech, so they ought to be available in the proper ratio with the original audio track (be it 3.0/4.0/4.1 etc).

Mistaken. (Mostly ignore).

I thought they were widescreen, not 4:3 pan and scan. Yes, the were made for tube tvs, but they were widescreen, not pan and scan. and for the most part, u can change the ratio to fit a normal widescreen tv, the only problem lies with the subtitles given to greedo and jabba and others. They don't fit the screen. My panasonic lets me zoom in without cutting anything off, so they are like the 2004 dvds, but again the subtitles are not all there.

They are NOT Pan & Scan on the DVDs. They are in the original aspect ratio. Just Non-Anamorphic Laserdisc Ports.

Ahh, my mistake.

Well, they still ought to be available in anamorphic widescreen. Stretching isn't really where it's at.

True, but back in 2006, not many people had widescreen tvs, the new tv craze only started 3, or 4 years ago. People still had tube tvs. Now if they do release them, most likely they will be formatted for widescreen tvs

There were many dvds in 06 and prior that were 16x9 enhanced/anamorphic.

I mean, the 2004 sets were anamorphic, come on.

You do know "stretching" is precisely what anamorphic is.

The picture is squeezed during encoding then streched in playback.

Yes, but using your tv to stretch a 4:3 widescreen image compared to an anamorphic stretch is not quite the same result.

I guess it would be cool, but I'd rather have it cleaned up, no scenes or special effects taken out or replaced, just the picture cleaned up, nothing else. Ideally that's what everybody wants it, unless if people want it all fuzzy.

I'll just be happy with what the boxset holds:3 going to be exciting. Thought I do wish that GL would include the original TEs for the pre-trilogy as well.

But I'm not going to have a hissy fit. Heck i got STAR WARS on VHS for a christmas present. I saw the original trilogy unaltered at a friends house. Ironically that year the ?1997? versions hit theaters. Then two years later we get Ep 1.

So unfortunately I don't have that strong hold as many member of the site have to the originals. Don't get me wrong, I love the originals. Its just what ever version I see first is the one that I hold on to the most. I guess I didnt see the changes made to the original trilogy. that wasn't until 2004, where I watched the original trilogy, 1997, and 2004 versions, back to back over a weekend. To me you can't beet the original, however, to me the 1997 is my original trilogy. After the revisions from 04, you can't watch the 1997 with the Pre-trilogy.

That's just thought. Don't though hate my way. I was young at the time of the 97 versions.

And that is true, again however, the 2006 Star Wars discs were not in 4:3, they were in widescreen, just not in anamorphic, hence the wide image produced. Now with fullscreen, 4:3 discs, yes when stretch on a 16:9 screen, everybody looks fat.

Yes they were 2.35.1 but in a 4:3 box.

I'm going to bed.
