Nah, the entire part of them fighting over the lava looks absurd to me. And C3PO during the I Love Lucy droid manufacturing scene in Clones didn't look good then.

Wouldn't you think they would prefer CGI to keep it relevant and accessible to young kids? The fact that the new film will cut against the grain of contemporary sci-fi films and be heavy in practical effects says that Disney is aware of SW Fans' discontent over the CGI happy prequels. They are probably aware of discontent over other things, as well (alienation over unavailability of theatrical versions). They know many fans are skeptical about Disney's involvement in Star Wars, and they want to win us over in whatever ways they can. The best way to do that is to release an awesome new movie, but don't count out a OUT release some time soon. Remember, rumors of it originally came from film websites like JOBLO--writers with connections to the film industry--not just forum member speculation. I'm not saying that these points mean it will happen. I'm just saying that there is plenty of reason to believe and hope. Disney won't want to peak public interest in SW too soon before episode 7. It will be a build up. Don't give up hope.

p.s.- don't forget to reset "search by" after each new search!
I assure you as one who's worked at Disney the practical effects are there for one reason, and one reason alone: JJ demonstrated he can make them look terrific at a smaller cost than CGI. They did not take the older fans' affinity for practical FX into account. It was the bottom line, through and through.

If that change was really made, why isn't this being released on Blu in a full set with digital copy codes....

No way, he changed it back. On top of that, what else was changed throughout the films for this release?

I guess I'm spending over 100 to find out tomorrow.

If this is really true, they could be reverting certain changes back to their original form to see how sales do, testing the water for a future completely unaltered trilogy? Or they're just trying to add even more incentive to buy these digital releases? It's just weird that they'd only fix one thing but not others.

Click throughs for the site is my guess. Everywhere else is reporting that they are the blu versions, but then who knows.

They don't need to test the waters for an unaltered OT - they would sell insanely well.

This is just a way to drum up digital sales - guaranteed. I'm sitting out any future purchases of the OT at all until they are released on blu ray. Even then, I may just stick with the Despecialized versions as I'm kind of tired of shelling out cash for these every few years.

If true, we have no idea what was fixed and what has stayed the same. That's the bigger point. We had no idea of new changes when the Blu was released until people combed through the set.

The same situation could apply here but funny enough, in reverse.

That's what I think. Devin, who wrote the article, is known for clickbait articles. Having said that, he had to have known what running that article would mean...and it's not like he doesn't get inside info on things in the industry, even if he's not batting .1000 in that area.

If these digital releases somehow turn out to be the UOT, the world might actually break. In any case, even if certain changes are corrected, it's almost certainly for sales/publicity more than anything else. Probably won't know anything for sure til the weekend. (I have no intention of buying these even if they do correct most changes... physical over digital.)

Sorry if this has already been addressed earlier/elsewhere, but was there any provision in Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm that said they can't release the UOT in any capacity for a certain amount of time, if ever? Just curious.

No idea. We have no idea how much control they have over these films. If changes were made for this , Lucas HAD to be involved. He's the director of four of the films.

If so then I have even less belief that these will be different from the Blus. Lucas' whole reason to sell was to essentially wash his hands of Star Wars and let someone else handle it. He's also been busy with that animated movie he produced that like 12 people worldwide saw. I just don't see him sitting down and finally agreeing to correct certain changes that have stood for almost 20 years... just for a digital release.

If I need to remind anyone, Devin also claimed LucasFilm didn't own Empire or Jedi. He gets his wires crossed...from time to time.

I don't particularly mind the changes made to the special editions except for three things:
-Han shoots first
-The singing scene in RotJ
-Vader's "Nooooo!" in RotJ
Everything else I'm kinda fine with.
If these things were fixed, I'd be happy to shell out for a future BD box set. Until then, they're not getting my money.

Considering Lucas' stance on artist's rights, he would've been involved. The whole point of Lucas' career was to be independent of Hollywood after his experiences on THX. No damn way he lets others change his films just because he sold the company....unless he REALLY is done with the whole STAR WARS thing and doesn't care.
