That's exactly why the Spike HD versions are so awful. Taking a 2.35:1 film and cropping it to 1.78:1 is the same as taking your correct size shirt, cutting it down a size and then trying to wear it.

You mean, like the DVDs? With the accidental flopped surround tracks, black and white blue fuzz Death Star explosion, drowned out music cues, and botched color timing? If that's how these films are meant to be seen, no thanks.

Eh, there seems to be a lot of EE in this broadcast. It was extremely noticeable when Luke came out of the farm to the edge of the crater to view the twin sun set.

And do not forget the 'crushed blacks'. They are really bad in this one. When the Sandcrawler pulled away with R2 in it, the scene was just one big black smudge with no definition whatsoever. All that you could see was some of its yellow lights and a faint star field in the top right corner. Also, in the canyon when Ben saves Luke his robes are just a dark drown blob with no detail either.

I cannot believe that Lucas does not fix this issue for the BDs.

Are you watching this on a VIZIO or something?

I can see those details just fine on mine, then again I have a Sony XBR...

I can't imagine they wouldn't "fix" the problems at this point. If everyone on the net is aware of them they sure should be...

Calm down, guys... these "HD" broadcasts of the SW flicks are NOT the transfers being used for the Blu's. I 100% guarantee it.

...and one way to know for sure? There are no changes to the content. Lucas, Steve Sansweet, ILM, and others have all mentioned that they're still further tinkering with all 6 films for the new release. For example, Episode I will now feature the same CGI Yoda as in II and III (they used this new version of the footage for the SW in Concert tour)

Am I only one here who thinks George Lucas shouldn't put the original editions of the OT on the Blu-ray set? I'm not saying I don't want them, because I do, but I have a feeling that GL will get even more criticsm from fans if he did put them in the set than if he didn't. I'll explain - if the originals were included, the Prequels and Special Editions would naturally be included also, meaning OT fans would be screaming and yelling saying "I only want the orignals, not the Prequels or Specails Edition", meaning they'd be getting several films in the set they don't want. Not only that but, they would be paying double, if not triple the price for the set of films they want.

It seems like Lucas will never be able to please all his fans, regardless of what he does and in many ways I hope that only one version of each film is included because then you would have the defintive edition of each film and would link to each other much better than before, and you also wouldn't be cluttered with different depictions of events, which is what would happen if you included all editions. It would then naturally feel like when watching them in order that this is the actual version of events. Just my opinion though, not fact.

Either way, I think it's best if GL didn't put the originals in, for reasons stated in the first paragraph.

Never had this experience, so sad to think that probably I never will.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45211

I was 3 years old. EMPIRE will always be my no. 1 movie of all time, followed by RAIDERS. Excellent job by IRVIN KERSHNER/STEVEN SPIELBERG and LEIGH BRACKETT/LAWRENCE KASDAN, note however both came from a story by GEORGE LUCAS*. Many others in my top 20 favorite list has GEORGE LUCAS name attached, 3 of them he himself wrote/co-wrote the screenplay and directed. I won't comment about the recent trilogy or the special editions (I love them all though I understand the tantrums), but when credit is due he surely deserves it.

* PHILIP KAUFFMAN shares story credit for RAIDERS.

Anyway, do I wish that the original versions are included, in full HD? Of course. Do I think it will happen? Probably not. Will I still get the set. Sure, as dumb as Greedo shooting first is, it doesn't ruin Star Wars for me.

Watching Episode IV on DVD now, it looks so good upscaled to 1080p! Can't wait for the BD.

Some people are going to ***** and moan no matter what, you are right.

However, the vast majority of us would be perfectly happy as long as both versions were included. The only people that would complain about having to buy both are the crazies, because most of us who want the original versions as well know full well that they would be bundled. And, many of us, including myself, would like to own both versions.

I think he should have 2 separate releases:

1. The whole Saga (all 6 films with the latest fixes) + 1 bonus disc for each Episode and the audio commentaries, of course.

2. The Original Trilogy (Unaltered, but cleaned up)

Then, after a while:

3. The Prequel Trilogy box set

4. The Ultimate Special Edition IV,V,VI box set

Perhaps my preferred way would be:

5. The Ultimate box set containing 'The whole Saga' with all the fixes, but also the OT via seamless branching, and one bonus disc per film.

Maybe even some additional audio commentaries by the visual effects guys, and cast commentaries, especially the PT.
I know that Rob Coleman and John Knoll...are on the commentaries already, but they share time with the others, so I would like an in-depth solo commentary, or a 60min. 'Making of visual effects' for each of the Prequels.
A 60min. 'Making of' for each of the films.

A ''The Editing of George Lucas'' documentary would be sweet as well.

Interviews with crew and cast......

The impact SW has had on our cultures....

and all in Full HD and lossless audio. I could live without lossless audio on the bonus discs, but 1080p should be mandatory IMO.

What do you guys think?

Everybody happy??

Unfortunately, I am not the one to decide...

If they do bring out any of the Star Wars Movies in any edition by the date on this thread I will be as happy as humanly possible.

Waiting like we have;I dont care 1 movie,3 movies,6 movies.1 edition,2 editions, every edition made already.I would just be so happy and excited that I wouldn't care about many of the details.

As long as its an HD Surround Track(instead of Dolby Digital)And if the picture is better then any of the DVD editions being upscaled,is all I would ask to make me watch it every day for at least a week straight.

Correct, in fact, I'm thinking these are nothing more than 720p versions of the '04 DVD prints.

However, I did notice that ANH was overly dark. Especially the Sandcrawler scenes.

I didn't watch much of TESB, but the more I watched of either film, I began to see that the image was pretty soft with very little improvement over the DVDs. No grain, whatsoever, and I'm betting that the BDs will have a fine layer of grain on them.

And not only was the image cropped to 1.78:1, but I swear it was zoomed in as well, as some of the top and bottoms didn't looked framed properly either.

And what was with the explosions in space? They were all pretty much white. I don't even recall the DVDs looking that washed of color for those effects.
