That kind of spoils the flow for me, it's hard to go from swordfighters to acrobats with superhuman skills (or vice versa). A New Hope really suffers because of the style he introduced in the prequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi have some great work in them. Once they start defying gravity I kind of start to tune out. I think The Duel of Fates was a highpoint, but it almost goes too far at some points.

The age thing doesn't' really bother me, as I separate the trilogies anyway, but you only have to look at Liam Neeson from The Phantom Menace to Liam Neeson today to see how far out Ewan and Alec Guinness are apart, as that's about the timespan between the prequels and originals. Sir Alec doesn't look too bad for the time-period, I don't think his hair-piece helps, he'd look pretty dapper if they'd given him Sir Sean's piece from The Hunt for Red October!

Thank you.
All I did was a google search. Don't do torrents myself, but was able to find direct downloads instead in a matter of minutes. BTW I am nearly computer/internet illiterate, so if I can find them, anyone can... except maybe George Lucas, who wouldn't recognize what he was looking at if he did see them.

Default I gotta SAY...

If there are no intended plans for releasing the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL cuts of the first three Star Wars films, I can't understand why any die hard fan would want to plop down more money on this farce it's become.

Come ON already! Where's the BEEF?!

Get them original theatrical cuts out on BD soon because the force is certainly NOT with you right now in this obnoxious decision to capitalize on Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets the Emperor. Sad news on this. Anyone "in the know" of a proper BD release, please don;t hesitate to shut me up with a link!

You're thinking of AOTC ( and the scene in question in that film mentions the Dark Lord as opposed to the dark side itself, though the script goes into more detail ). There is something similar in the ROTS script but it didn't make it into the film.

We don't know for certain that Qui-Gon was Obi-Wan's first master. Yoda may have trained Obi-Wan for some amount of time in a typical master-apprentice relationship before handing him off to Qui-Gon. After all, we know that it was not unheard of for Yoda to act as the master to a specific Jedi in such a fashion, from the example of Dooku.

I think it's to be assumed, retroactively of course, that Obi-Wan is playing dumb here, as his experience around R2 ties into events that he doesn't want to talk about just yet. But we may note that what he does say is technically accurate: he didn't actually own his droid from the PT, it was assigned to him by the Temple.

She did. That's why when Luke refers to her "real mother", she isn't like "What are you talking about?"

In regards to Obi-Wan telling Luke that Yoda trained him, we have two on screen examples:

- In either TPM or AOTC, we see Yoda teaching a group of younglings. Presumably, Yoda would also have taught Obi-Wan like this when Obi-Wan was a youngling; it would have just some twenty odd years earlier.

- Further, at the end of ROTS when Yoda and Obi-Wan are going their separate ways, Yoda gives Obi-Wan a datapad loaded with further instruction on the Force. Based on bits from earlier in the movie, this new teaching about the Force apparently arises from Yoda's communication with Qui Gon Jinn (who did not simply dissolve back into the sea of the Force on death).

We have a general example, and a more specific example that both separately and together fill older Obi-Wan's claim that Yoda had taught him.

This is one of those puzzle pieces where it doesn't quite fit but if you push on it hard enough, you can make it fit. Obviously George Lucas intended for Obi-Wan to have been Yoda's apprentice when he wrote TESB. Qui-Gon or a similar character wasn't even a thought back then. Heck, he wasn't even originally conceived for TPM until late in the game. I like Qui-Gon and can overlook the imperfect fit he has with the dialogue in TESB, but it is far and away from being an example of good cohesive storytelling.

Also, if Yoda is the "head" jedi and the other jedi come to him frequently for council, that would also be considered "training", if not as literal as the typical master/apprentice training.

Once Obi Wan became a "master" clearly Yoda (and some of the other council members) could still have trained with (or been trained by) yoda.

If you work in a coffee shop and one person "trains" you how to make drinks and run the register but the owner teaches you some of the finer points of making fancy drinks or maybe running the books for when he wants to take a vacation, who "trained" you? Both, right? in different ways?

Plus, its just fiction. Obi Wan clearly told Luke what he needed to hear to understand their course of action, not a full on history lesson of everything ever.

That's not a datapad, that's an invisible Liam Neeson!

Here's actually what it originally said in the script:

"You will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda, the Jedi master who instructed me when I was a child before I became an apprentice to Qui-Gon Jinn and who I would occasionally go to for council from time to time. By no means was he the ONLY Jedi master who instructed me but he's pretty much one of the only ones left and for the sake of time, he's probably your best chance of getting trained. Anyway, I gotta get going because it's Force happy hour and I'm using Force credits just by talking to you. So I hope you survive the night because you look pretty close to death and if you do, Dagobah. Get there. Yoda."

When Leia smooched Luke in Empire Force ghost Ben should have popped out of thin air going "whoa, whoa, let's stop this right here and now."

If that's true i would re-buy, but i doubt it somehow, the only thing we can be thankful for now that Lucas cannot do any further damage to the OT. But at this stage it's almost completely destroyed, almost. Just thank god i got copies of the de-specialized versions. And thank god for Harmy

I have a decent copy, not blu-ray level but close, and much much better then the old Laserdisc/DVD versions (stands at about 6.7Gb) Apparently they found a full 35mm print of the unaltered version of ROTJ and needs some clean up and that's it, but at the rate Harmy works at it's a couple of years away at the very least.
