His eyes glazed over because he made the movie 40 years ago.

Heroic character on a desert planet meet a droid that send him/her on a mission they meet han, chewie and the falcon and get off the planet. They wind up on yavin where the resistance with Leia need them to help destroy a super weapon that can destroy worlds.

It seems familiar?

Sure it does, but hasn't Star Wars always been about familiarity? It wasn't a terribly original story to begin with, and already in the OT the third movie was basically a rehash of the first. Lucas was also quite proud of how he made the PT mirror/"rhyme" with the OT. Lucas has decided this is how Star Wars works (and he did write the story outlines for the new movies, remember) and I'm fine with that.

Seriously? Yes themes were reused a lot. That is different than the EXACT SAME PLOT AND PLOT BEATS.

I'm not saying it's not ok your ok with it. I'm saying it's still ridiculous. There are a million different worlds and ways this could have gone. It's a exact duplicate.

Correction: he GAVE story outlines to Disney along with selling the franchise.

They smiled condescendingly and promptly threw them in the trash as soon as he walked out the door.

Hey, I understand feeling that way. It's just I came to terms with all the "rehashing" going on in Star Wars (and most other sequels ever made) long ago, so it's not that shocking to me this time around. It's all about if they can rehash it in a way that feels fresh enough, and I'm sure this film will have its own identity. I'm not judging it before I've seen it.

I recall you're quite fond of Jurassic World (as am I), many feel that movie is guilty of doing the exact same thing, i.e., rehashing the same plot and story beats from the original but "spicing them up". Do you agree with that criticism, and if so, why are you okay with it when it comes to JP but not SW?

They've made it sound like they're basically sticking to Lucas' outlines but have made some departures here and there. I don't think they were completely discarded, but then you may be right as there's no way to know for sure at this point in time.

I don't think we'll know until after the fact, they seem to be worried that mentioning George has hand in anything at this point will put fans off. Most of the promotion seems to be putting the prequels down. If fans don't like the film they'll probably blame George (no matter how much he contributed) and if it's a success they'll give JJ the credit.

I think it's depressing that they can't seem to talk positively about something without been negative about something else. They could have gone to lengths to say that the film's going to bring back the wonderment, pace, humour, aesthetics and space-opera feel of the original but comments like that are few and far between.

Sure, I can agree with that. I'm excited for The Force Awakens and all the other upcoming movies, and I have high hopes for them but the whole "let's bash George, directly or indirectly" we've seen from many of those involved and now from Anthony Daniels as well is a bit off-putting. Sure I don't love every single decision he's ever made either, but let's have a bit more respect for the man who created this whole thing and is the main reason these new films are even possible in the first place. It's fine if they don't like the prequels, but it'd be classier and more professional to let that rest and focus on these new movies.

Would you prefer it if I wrote:

At some undetermined later date, they decided not to use them. At present we have received no specific information indicating that they turned up in a landfill."

I'd prefer that you just write the truth:
"I wasn't there. I don't know anyone that was there. I have no proof of anything that happened there. I honestly don't know that it happened at all as I posted and there's no evidence that I can link to that would support that it happened even remotely close to the way I said it did so I'm not even sure why I would argue it."

I'd say at this point and time we should start thinking that maybe where there's smoke there's fire.... people from all corners of the creative processes have finally started decrying lucas and his crazed hypo controlling nature. it seems that he deserves less and less respect the more we hear

"Well, the ones that I sold to Disney and everything, they came up to the decision that they didn't really want to do those. So they made up their own. It's not the ones that I originally wrote." - Lucas

Yes, we all know that quote. But where is the part where "They smiled condescendingly and promptly threw them in the trash as soon as he walked out the door"?

To be fair, Anthony Daniels also said his eyes glazed over trying to understand the plot of SW7 when JJ tried to explain it to him.

Nobody on the outside knows what remains of Lucas' three-film story treatments in the new films. In fact, when Abrams was hired, the story team had a giant whiteboard of concepts trying to map out the three film story arc, but that's all it was. And they were stuck. Nobody knows what remains of that work. Say what you want about Abrams, but he and Kasdan hammered out not only the screenplay for Episode VII, but the framework for VIII and IX, and I find it hard to believe that absolutely nothing of the Lucas-team Whiteboard remained and was thrown into a trash can.

And yet Harrison Ford thanked "Larry" for writing such a "wonderful story".

Did anyone watch the Star Wars themed Mythbusters last night?

One of the myths they busted was the "higher ground" myth from ROTS. However, after thinking about it a bit, I can't believe they didn't reach the opposite conclusion.

They recreated the hill from ROTS and then started whacking each other with padded lightsabers. While it is true that they hit each other an equal number of times, the one at the lower end of the hill was getting hit mostly in the chest and head. While the one higher up was mostly getting hit in the legs. The advantage was obvious. They even had the one at the lower end wear headgear, while the other one didn't. I can't believe they missed this.

That's awesome. Maybe next time they can bust the whole "fear leads to anger" thing or prove that the Queen's ship wasn't really hit by the blockade.
