No, I mean the 3D showing I saw cropped it down to something like 2:1. Very odd.

Ohh, that definitely didn't happen at mine. Very odd indeed.

Yeah interestingly enough Phantom Menace has the worst Blu-Ray transfer, and yet still is the biggest improvement from the DVD version. I think this says more about how bad the DVD transfer was than how good the Blu-Ray version is, however.

DNR aside, it doesn't look that bad, and honestly since I would rarely actually go back and watch that one I don't really care that much. I'd still take a better transfer of the original '99 version if Disney ever releases it in some kind of box set though.

There were supposed to be 3-D screenings of AOTC and ROTS back in April at Celebration Anaheim. I think it was first ever public screening of ROTS that way. But I never heard a thing about it after, which I think is very odd.

Anyone know why the Complete Saga repackage has been pulled by Amazon? This comes out in under a month. Best Buy doesn't even have a listing for it. Odd.

Disney cancelled the 3D conversions/re-releases to focus on Episode VII, or something like that. Only Episode I ended up getting released.

Ah, thanks! That's a bummer. I was really curious how they were going to look. I was pretty underwhelmed with TPM's 3-D conversion.

Marketing messed up and forgot to add that the set contains the Unaltered Original Trilogy on the cover art ?

Was looking forward to the 3D releases, too, but I liked Phantom Menace's. I'm hoping at least the PT gets 3D releases (don't really care to see the OT in 3D, I think the newer movies lend themselves to it better). But I doubt it'll happen anytime soon, if ever.

Only Episode I had a theatrical 3D release. Work on Episode II and III was completed and have been shown. Episode III 3D premiered at an event sometime this year, I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment, but I'm jealous of those who got to experience it. As for IV-VI getting converted, I think that was abandoned fairly early on.

I'm not holding my breath in regarding to I-III getting released on blu with 3D, well, maybe when they feel the need to put out another edition to get the Star Wars faithful to buy something once again.

Considering the 3D to TPM was utter ****, it was a good thing they canned the 3D conversions. The only thing 3D in it were the subtitles.

Several years ago the first reel of Ep. 7 ANH was converted to 3D and screened at a tech conference for 3D film making. It would be interesting to see (especially if the conversion process for it and TPM differed) but like you I doubt first reel of ANH will be shown to the public much less the conversion of the OT fully anytime soon.

Question for you guys:

I pulled out my RotS disc tonight and watched it from about the one hour mark straight through to the end. Watching it on a two channel setup of pro monitors, I was more than a little surprised to hear numerous lines of dialog having technical issues...not sure if they would be distortion, clicks/pops or what, but every five minutes or so I heard a nasty sounding line that made my ears perk up.

Has anyone else experienced this on RotS? I used to watch my DVD until I was blue in the face on my older 5.1 system, but never noticed any issues. Maybe I just have a more discerning ear now, or maybe my monitors are just that much more transparent, but damn, that dialog was riddled with weird problems from what I heard today. Very odd.

He wasn't talking about the 3D reissue plans, that Lucasfilm scrapped.
He's talking about the 3D screenings that were announced for celebration exclusively this year.

I had the pleasure of experiencing that at Cinema Con and it looked freaking amazing, and that was back when Digital 3D was in its infancy.

Might be DTS fold down issues.

Thank you, WJWS Channel 13:Amity. That is what I meant. That screenings of AOTC and ROTS in 3-D were to take place at Celebration Anaheim. When I read his answer, I thought he meant that Disney scrapped the screenings for that specific event. I thought it would have been a pretty big deal for fans who attended to see the other two prequels in 3-D, but haven't seen mention of it since. So the screenings did take place?

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about the general 3D releases. Had no idea about smaller screenings happening at smaller events. If any were happening in my area I'd leap at the chance to see them, but I don't think any of them did/will.

I can't believe that the old films got such a good rating here.
Episode 1 is a DNR massacre too, even worse.

The films (4-6) were 2k mastered in 1997, the color timing is wrong, blacks are extremely crushed, the DVDs offer almost the same quality except the compression is a bit better. Check on caps-a-holic.com.

Lowry spent a lot of time de-graining the films I fear and if you look closely you can see that they worked with filters, sometimes cartoonish filters to smooth everything and make look "better", fake grain to give the illusion of a film like structure, they even froze the grain in certain scenes, terrible.

The Indiana Jones films look much better in comparison (more details, better colors, etc.).
