A valid question, and I can only think that it's because the franchise is now a going concern for Disney and essentially they don't want to "advertise" for a rival at the head of every movie, not if they can help it, unlike with a catalogue of old films that have little franchise potential so there's nothing for Warners to gain by airbrushing MGM's involvement.)
They took the fanfare off of 5 of the six because Fox did nothing but distribute. No need to keep another Studios opening, and pay them for using it. You don't think Fox would just let them use it for free would you? The only film produced by Fox was IV. Fox must have had a clause with Lucasfilm, that "A New Hope" would remain with some ancillary right as a Fox picture, if the series was ever sold outside the Fox film group.

I can think of a need..... Fans want it.

Star Wars without that fanfare, is like peanut butter without the jelly. It's not the same.

While Fox no longer owns Episode IV (since they gave up ownership to Lucasfilm in order to distribute the prequels), they still retained full perpetual distribution rights to Episode IV, including digital. Hence the digital HD version of Episode IV is distributed by Fox, contains the Fox fanfare, and is UV eligible.

For the rest of the films, Lucasfilm retained the television and digital distribution rights (since Fox was only contracted with the theatrical and home video rights). So the Digital HD versions of all other Star Wars films are distributed by Lucasfilm/Disney, do not have the Fox fanfare, and are DMA eligible instead of UV.

Hmmm, would I let another studio use my logo at the beginning of one of the most popular movies in the world...

Yes, I think I just might be able to see my way clear to that.

Like I said, Disney would not want to disappoint its fans, so as long as Fox gives them the OK, then no problem.
These two sentences are opposite of each other.

If they wanted a new and special fanfare for the LucasFilm logo to make up for the 20th Century Fox fanfare, I'm confident John Williams is up to the task.

Um, I hate to break it to you but the person who replied wasn't a Fox rep, he's just another fellow poster who got in too late to submit any questions in the Q&A, hence WillG's "I'm guessing" qualification which you've left out of your quote above. Bless you for being so wonderfully myopic on this whole issue, it's been fun but when people just see what they want to see I know I'm ice-skating uphill.

Dude, I know all that, you misunderstand me. My post was in reference to people wondering why Fox would still be noted in the credits despite the fanfares having been removed, that's why the question I 'asked' was in quotation marks. People will cling on to any hope they can (see post above) and I was trying to shoot that hope down, but then all I get is people quoting the blatantly obvious back at me like I'm the dunderhead. I should really give this place a rest for a few days.

I'm just trying to be optimistic. Whatever, I promised to stop and I will.

So it is. I just this now realized it! Alright, I'm sorry about that, thought that was a response from a rep.

It's not that complicated -- Fox bankrolled STAR WARS like any other film they would produce, which is why they still (and always will) own it. Lucas didn't have the money at that time to make a film like that on his own, and nobody else held the interest that Fox did.

Unfortunately for Fox, they idiotically let Lucas keep all the merchandising and sequel rights because they didn't think the film would turn into what it did. The kind of deal that could happen in the mid 70s but would never, ever in a million years happen today. If Fox was smart at the time, the whole property would've been theirs.

As I am sure this has been stated many times, although Fox did produce Episode IV, they don't own Episode IV anymore and only earn the fees that Lucasfilm pays to Fox to distribute the film.

In order to ensure that Lucasfilm would use Fox to distribute the prequels, Fox gave up ownership of Episode IV, but retained the indefinite full distribution rights to Episode IV.

http://articles.latimes.com/1998/apr...iness/fi-35475

Therefore, Lucasfilm will always earn the lion's share in terms of the profits generated by Episode IV.

No kidding. Can we just shut down this thread? The Blu-ray came out 4 years ago now. All this thread has turned into is talking about why Disney has to release the original versions and who actually owns the rights which had been beat to death, its ghost has been beat to death, its ghost's ghost has been beat to death and the thread still won't die. Accept that right now Disney really doesn't care about the old films, they care about putting the new ones out and making money. Why are they going to spend money on the old films when they could release them as is and people will still buy? Until Disney comes out and says they are releasing the original versions, assume it isn't happening and move on.

If that was truly the case they wouldn't be getting the band back together for The Force Awakens, we'd have some young-adult trilogy with all new stars.

I think they're working on the originals as we speak, but releasing them will take coverage away from their new films so they'll have to time it right and Disney love Anniversary releases.

But all those scraps of third hand inference that was taken out of context as confirmation was in reality an oblique round about way of affirming that Half-life 3 is confirmed...

Sorry, that, the ill defined what exactly truly constitutes as viable renditions of, the Unaltered Original Trilogy has been confirmed by the simple force of hope held by a certain set of the fandom.

Snark aside, I definitely agree that it is best to assume nothing is happening anytime soon and the ideal holding pattern is not worry about it until there is a mighty press release from the Mouse-House actually proclaiming the release date of the UOT.
YMMV

Best regards,
KvE
