While I've never had any problems with Lucas' changes to the films over the years I would love to see a release of the original unaltered trilogy. They could make it a very retro release and put it in an old school lunch box and only included vintage bonus material. No contemporary special features looking back at the production of the trilogy, only materials (featurettes, videos, trailers, tv specials, etc.) produced during the 1976 - 1983 period. All painstakingly restored.

Watched "Attack of the Clones" again, which I realize is everybody's least favorite… but it's always been my favorite prequel, largely due to the strength of the end battle. And then I came to realize… everyone likes to rank the STAR WARS movies from best to worst, but I'm coming to believe the best way to do it is by HALF movies. The STAR WARS saga is extremely schizophrenic: even the worst installment has some amazing moments. So here's my new ranking by HALF movies…

Category I: UNTOUCHABLY PERFECT
1--STAR WARS (second half)
2--STAR WARS (first half)
3--EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (first half)
4--RETURN OF THE JEDI (second half)
5--EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (second half)

Category II: FLAWED BUT REALLY EXCELLENT
6--ATTACK OF THE CLONES (second half)
7--PHANTOM MENACE (second half)
8--FORCE AWAKENS (first half)
9--REVENGE OF THE SITH (first half)
10--FORCE AWAKENS (second half)

Category III: TOUGH FOR ME TO GET THROUGH
11--REVENGE OF THE SITH (second half)
12--RETURN OF THE JEDI (first half)
13--ATTACK OF THE CLONES (first half)
14--PHANTOM MENACE (first half)

Yeah, that's a creative way to rank the films. I don't totally agree though. For me I can't evenly split my take on the films into 1st half/2nd half.

For me, The Phantom Menace is a fully dull affair almost all the way through until the finale. Attack of the Clones I would say has more entertaining bits and pieces throughout, but it is counter-acted with really horrible cringey material, worse than any specific scenes or moments in Phantom Menace. So I'm always kind of on the fence which movie I like the least of the two.

Revenge of the Sith, on the other hand, I think is actually a pretty great movie for the first 2/3s, but then REALLY drops the ball at the finale and kind of deflates the entire story. By contrast to that movie, I thought Return of the Jedi had a great opening, then meanders a lot for most of the middle, but then makes up for it with a phenomenal finale.

A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back? I have virtually nothing negative to say about either of those.

If anyone has a empty mint copy of the original Digibook packaging I'd be happy to take it off your hands. I just finally bought the Complete Saga a few weeks ago cuz it was $30, but it was the Vader version and the slip/case are kinda busted.

I saw an animated Blu-ray at Walmart in the $7.88 bin, LegoThe Padawan Menace. Is this something I need to see to keep up with the storyline? Am I missing anything important, or is this something that's just an attempt to grab more money? I'm not sure if this is necessary for my collection.

Not at all necessary or essential or must-watch in any way.

Default Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Original & Prequel Trilogy - Sept 16, 2011 - Review

I'm really surprised a 4K set has not been announced yet, or at least a 4K rendering!

Good breakdown! The first half of Empire has some of my favorite film scenes of all time, whereas the first half of Return of the Jedi is my least favorite in the whole trilogy (I don't watch the prequels) and mainly why I don't really care for Return.

Seeing as the current versions are locked in at 1080p (or 2K or whatever) I'm almost positive any 4K release of Star Wars is going to be announced along-side the big UOT announcement. Even then, this would be assuming Disney has already started releasing 4K titles by then.

I'm not that surprised to be honest. Just remember how long it took for Star Wars to jump the bandwagons of both DVD and Blu. We were waiting for years for the films to hit either platform.

I can see 4K versions being something Disney-Lucasfilm might want to save as a surprise for the the 40th anniversary of Star Wars (2017), probably as part of a greater announcement of new home video releases. If that's the case we could maybe see the first announcements happening late this year.

I think LucasFilm is going to wait for much, much larger adoption of 4K tech, and I don't see that happening next year. I could be wrong, but the format is far too young for a release of something like the Star Wars saga.

I don't even mean 4K discs. But they've been scanned at 4k, they need a proper release!

They just re-released the old discs seven months ago, it's going to be a while. They'll strike when the time is right.

I am really not a fan of the cardboard sleeve layout for the discs in the original 2011 blu ray release. I prefer the new case layout where the discs are in snap cases.
