It's not "half a movie", it's a chapter in a war. The entire movie is an escape from defeat, but it's really about the characters surviving the assault to regroup. Sure, there are a lot of questions at the end, but the essential structure is escape from ongoing oppression, and the rebels escape to fight another day. It isn't half a movie, it's the story of how our lead characters deal with it and survive. So, so bizarre to hear people like Mr. Whedon complain the film leaves you hanging, when the true arc of that movie is the survival of the rebellion, and they do. That's the movie. The Empire under Vader loses. They fail to crush the Rebellion, they fail to capture Luke, everything they want to achieve outside of chasing the rebels off of their secret base fails. Han is captured, Luke has to grow up, but essentially the story is bad guys try to defeat the good guys, bad guys FAIL fail to crush the good guys, the board is reset, roll credits. It isn't half a movie. It's a movie.
The movie does leave you hanging-for more.EMPIRE is not self-contained-with a beginning, middle and end.EMPIRE sets things up for JEDI to resolve.JEDI is the second half of the same movie.

I get stormtroopers getting killed in one blaster shot, but the armor should have at least protected against projectile weapons...and rocks. The space battle of Endor is still the most epic and exciting battle of it's kind ever made.

Don't worry about other people's opinions. Movies are subjective. Love what you love.
It shows that the Ewok aren't as incapable as you think. Being an isolated tribe, doesn't mean that they can't defend themselves. It shows ingenuity on the part of the Ewok to come up with those creative boobytraps. The way they were able to take out the AT-ST just proves how intelligent they are.

Hands down Empire Strikes Back is my favorite, first time you meet Yoda and the story line truly develops!

Intelligent doesn't make the battle any less ludicrous. The AT-ST attacks are completely believable, but the arrows and rocks are not. To his credit, Lucas showed ineffective attacks, such as the catapult, tripwire, and glider. But the battle should have been very one-sided, with the Ewoks in their superior numbers falling in battle and buying time for the rebel team to destroy the shield. Then the Imperial troops could have retreated into the forest after the Death Star exploded, with a cheeky moment of little teddy bears running after them into the brush. Then Han and Leia kiss and blah blah blah.

That would have been a little better and a lot more believable.

Never underestimate an Ewok. Little bastards cook people alive with their clothes on.

I still don't get the hate some have for The Force Awakens. Technically, if it was a remake of A New Hope, then it would have the exact same plot with the exact same characters doing the exact same things. The Force Awakens doesn't have Luke as the main hero and Darth Vader as the villain.

A safe movie wouldn't have left many questions for the next episodes to answer.

You sure about that? You might change your mind about it like you did with the prequels.

Yes, and they eventually evolve into Furlings and become part of the top 5 ancient races.

It is? I've been on this planet for a while now and Thunderdome has long been regarded as "the shite one", though I like it quite a bit so I'm casting no aspersions here.

Count me surprised that Lethal Weapon 2 is apparently looked down on. I've only ever seen the first (which I love), but I've got several friends and cousins who swear by the whole series and keep tryna get me to watch the sequels. I've just never gotten around to it.

They hate Lethal Weapon 2? 2 is amazing, maybe better than 1. The worst of the series was Lethal 3.

Yep. I'll never forget looking for the PT DVD's at Moviestop last year (lol), and some fat nerd behind me says "Why? Those suck. Be a real Star Wars fan." To which I promptly turned around and told him to shut his fat face before I do it for him, which not only caused a scared reaction, but a good chuckle out of the employee. If someone doesn't like em, that's fine. Hate them all you want. I absolutely loathed TFA with every fiber of my being. But I will not tell anyone they are wrong for enjoying it.

Oh, and I also hate it when OT-Purists always feel the need to link the RLM videos. Anyone can take a scene, analyze it out of context, and make anything look bad.

From late 1996:

This magazine presented the first real criticism of ROTJ that I ever read, and I agreed with most of it. I am unsure if that article is what started the backlash, but ROTJ was always my least favorite Star Wars movie until the prequels dame out. Mostly to do with the Ewoks and odd structure of the movie.
