I never read that much into it though. I guess people do that like I do with Vader at the end of Jedi, ascribing so much emotion and intent into a look or a very brief line of dialogue, so I'm not throwing any stones here, I just don't mind the other line because it's a lot grander. Vader's just done ****ed up so now he wants to preen his ego with a bit of pomp and ceremony.

Yeah, but he's there to lay the smacketh down and put them back on schedule, whereas letting Luke slip through his fingers could go either way. Super-pissed like in the original, or a self-motivational boost like in the SE.

The added insert shot of Fett's rocket pack igniting is pointless-the original version of the scene makes it perfectly clear what happened.

I just sounds like unnecessary bland narration for the logistics of the unnecessary new shots that were shoved in, to me.

I know that some people like that though.

I'm not familiar with this change. Do you mean at the Sarlacc Pit?

Indeed. If Lucas' plot revisionism is to be believed, this is the moment the "complete saga" has been leading to. Anakin's internal conflict is implicit in the staging, and when he initially moves (in the unaltered versin) you have that brief, delicious, breathtaking moment of not actually knowing what he's going to do; the vocalised NOOOOOOooooo adds nothing that wasn't already there, and in fact makes his choice too obvious and (for me) less moving , and far less satisfying.

I just can't see that a lot of these "explanatory" additions were needed. Especially when, as has been said, there were other more desperate shortcomings that have gone unaddressed.

And that's the crux of it. If we got more positive alterations to go along with the completely superfluous additions then I wouldn't mind so much. I actually really like the 1997 cuts and the 2004 editions include some more decent technical changes as well as some more daftness, but the Blu-rays reach a critical mass of the entirely unnecessary outweighing any further technical fixes so I can't stand the BD editions of Star Wars and Jedi. Empire got off lightly.

I wouldn't say Empire got off lightly. Boba Fett's new voice is one of the worst alterations.

Even with that I still think it got off lightly compared to the others. Even though I'd rather have the original every time I've kinda gotten used to Tem Morrison's readings.

I think it might be more a matter of Empire being the best film, the closest to Star Wars perfection, so every change feels a bit like a nard shot. The Boba Fett voice and the "Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my imminent arrival via shuttle 2558" BS always hit me pretty hard, but intellectually, I know they're not nearly as bad as Jedi Rocks or that "No" business.

Star Wars has always been my favourite of the three so yeah, we've all got our own priorities when it comes to the perceived severity of the changes.

Yeah....no. Not even close to being one of the worst. Though, I think what makes it obvious is that the original is more fluid, and the redub sounds somewhat stiff in some of the lines.

Yes.Apart from not being needed it also doesn't cut well with the existing footage.

Even the semi specialized edition kept the CGI'd Sarlacc Pit

Agreed.The original sounds the best.
I thought the 1997 SE voice was okay.It sounded like they treated the original Wingreen vocals to make it sound like Boba was speaking through a helmet microphone?
2004 onwards-the Temura Morrison voice doesn't sound as menacing.
I didn't like the edited version of Boba's theme as Han is being loaded into SLAVE-1.

I'll go out on a limb here. Jar Jar is bad but Jedi Rocks is worse. I feel like I'm watching Sesame Street when it comes on. The "No" addition also doesn't make sense. What, he needed today's technology to add that later? It wasn't possible to say no in 1984? Most all his additions were cosmetic but why go back and make Vader say No....Nooooooooo! It's adds nothing to the scene or film. That is all.....for now.

I have said it before but the added "nooooooooooooooo" was the final middle finger to Star Wars fans from George Lucas. He knew how much people thought it was stupid in Revenge Of The Sith so he added it to Jedi.

It's not an issue of revisionism. This is the climactic moment of what was the final movie in the series. At a time when the complete saga could be defined to be just IV-VI it was the moment the saga was leading to. When you add the prequels and thus make the "complete saga" I-VI, it's still the moment the saga has been leading to.
