Of course there not. But as of now there the only HD version available. Not like I'm thinking they'll be mpeg-avc4 quality with 7.1 dtshd audio.

I think it's going to look great on BD. I don't think the effects are dated a lot. To me they hold up very well.

I still can't believe that none of this films won any Oscars, not even for soundtrack or costumes.
I too think that the efects hold up very well, and here's one for the OT fans - a lot of the space battle effects are actually models, not CGI. If you actually watch it, you will be able to see that they are physical models.

For me, the only visual effects that need replacing are tjose of Yoda and a few other aliens in Attack of the Clones, because compared to the Revenge of the Sith YOda, he does look pretty fake. I personally hope GL replacing many of the moe 'still', 'acting' moments of Yoda in Episode II, with the Episode III model. the moments that spring to mind for me are near the start of the film where Yoda, Mce Windu and other Jedi are discussing with Palpatine; in that part Yoda has dated quite alot there.

My point is that they aren't HD. If they are, they look terrible. They look like an upconvert.

I've seen Spikes presentation of these, I watched some of ROTJ this weekend. There nothing special, but it's still HD. You may be right that's it not much better than a good upconvert(since I own a PS3, and a HD dvd player I've watched them upconverted) but it is still an HD feed.

You just contradicted yourself. Anyway, if you own the DVDs then I guarantee you that they will look as good as the HD broadcast since you have a PS3 and an HD DVD player. Additionally, you wouldn't end up missing a large chunk of the picture.

It's all good. I've seen these so many times that until the blu rays come out
I doubt I'll watch them more than 2-3 times.

I remember watching these on HBO a couple years ago and wish I could record that broadcast again. It was like the 30th anniversary of Star Wars and they we're all commercial free.

Last time I checked HBO doesn't use OAR either.

Most people can't tell the difference between CG and models anyway. I laughed so hard when I recently listened to the Adywan guy who did the Star Wars revisited version, saying that he received so much hate mail for putting CG TIE fighters in the end battle of A New Hope, when in reality they were simply still cutouts!

I don't care what techniques they use to create a scene as long as it looks convincing.

Yeah, the Yoda Ep.III should be used in all the Episodes with subtle age changes of course.

The Ep.II is quite fine, but the one thing that betrays his CG origin is the lack of those fuss balls on his cloth.

I know there are like 4-5 different hdtv versions out there and to say they don´t look better than upscaled dvds means you haven´t seen the best versions. This for example:

Source : 1080p Sky Broadcasting/1080p German Premier Hybrid Caps
Frame Rate : 23.976 fps
Video : 1920x1080 @ 35,000kbps
Audio1 : English DTS 5.1 @ 1509kbps
Audio2 : English AC3 5.1 EX @ 640kbps

I saw a new hope yesterday and it looked so good that i thought for myself that if the blu-rays will be a noticeable difference over this then i´ll be very happy.

Very understandable, since it is only the introduction to the SW universe.

Default Which version of Star Wars on BD will/would you buy?

I am curious to see what you would purchase, since there has been a lot of talk about the various versions, so please vote.

You don't need to post a comment at all. You vote is what matters most in this thread.

Thank you, and May the Force be with you
