Last month I watched Revenge of the Sith followed by A New Hope, one thing that bothered me is how Anakin's lighstaber is a standard blue color when he is fighting Obi-Wan but when Luke first turns it on in Obi-Wan's house it is much more cyan, not the same color at all. Luke's blue lightsaber has always been cyan colored throughout all of the various incarnations of the film, correct? I would never suggest that they change the cyan to blue, but rather I think it would be kind of cool if they changed the color of Anakin's blue lightsaber to cyan in Revenge of the Sith.

The original elements of ANH are certainly available -- the film had been inducted into the National Film Registry as far back as 1989, for cryin' out loud. And it's not like it was a public domain film before. The induction means that new prints of archival quality were struck and deposited in optimal conditions.

This has always made me wonder why Lucas made such a hullaballoo of discovering the elements in ghastly shape in time for the 1997 SE's. Either the NFR isn't doing anything to preserve its inductees, or LFL was working with completely different elements, and then the question is why.

Anyway, this is probably tangential. Lucas doesn't want the originals to be seen again, and that's his right. I just hope that the 1977 cut of pre-ANH Star Wars is safely stored somewhere -- just like the 1980 cut of this year's inductee, TESB.

The release of the star wars complete saga is probably the best news at the beginning of this year in my opinion, will be for me a long nine months of waiting.I just love Star Wars, no matter what.

That brings up an interesting question, is the print of Empire in the National Film Registry the 1980,1997, or the 2004 version? If it is the 1980 version, then that does seem to suggest that it's more about Lucas not wanting his original versions released, than money/time needed to restore them.

BTW, I thought they did a massive restoration of the original negatives back in '95 so they could do the SEs in the first place. What, did Lucas have the negatives destroyed after they were digitally scanned?

I've never had a limb or wound for that matter cauterized, so I don't know what it feels like. I do however know what it looks like, and just because it's cauterized doesn't mean there wouldn't be some blood, or other bodily fluid. Simple fact is, it's really not that big of a screw up. The part that bothers me, and I haven't seen it in a while, so I don't remember how much it truly bothers me, but it looks obvious that he has his hand tucked in his sleeve. lol

Dale,

As a Lucas defender, it's been known for quite some time that this has nothing to do with money or the inability to not come up with the elements for the Original Trilogy.

It's always been, despite what the man says, about not wanting to do it at all because they don't represent what he was going for back in '77, '80, and '83.

They made him wealthier than he could ever dream of...but those cuts never sat right with him. Never have.

This is his way of slaying that demon. And he's going to do it his way, no matter what the fans think of the entire situation.

As a Si-Fi fan I eventually will buy it
But when I was a child I would have said “of course I’ll buy it the second it’s released”, but when I became a man, I put away childish thoughts and bought the Blu-ray box set of The Complete Battlestar Galactica instead.

Sounds to me like you'd buy Hackers on day one. I'm assuming you already have The Mission.

I just pre ordered it from BB.ca website.

A little off topic here, but I predict that the launch of the saga will be at the same time as the launch of the Star Wars the Old Republic MMO pc game.

I disagree about McGregor, the lines he is saying are not Shakespeare (far from it ) but he does a very good job as Obiwan in the prequels. He was by far the best actor in the 3 movies. Plus I never once seen him in an interview saying how horrible Lucas was as a director and what pains he suffered at having to say those horrible lines, unlike other actors in the series. That's being a professional and not an over-paied diva.
To be accurate, Laurence Olivier never acted with Harryhausen's stop motion characters. I know what you mean thought, he still did an excellent job. (FYI: for those that don't know what me and P@t_Mtl are talking about, the film is the 1981 Clash of the Titans)

There was less than stellar acting, true. However, I thought there was some in both trilogies, the prequels just don't have the nostalgia. However, overall I like the acting in Star Wars. Mark and company along with Ewan and company all did decent jobs and got even better by their respective third films. It's obvious to see why, minus Alec Guinness, Star Wars got nominations for visual effects rather than acting but they all did pretty good especially, even in the original trilogy, they had to act to air or a stick.

I like the Spike HD quality but it could be improved. If the Spike transfers are what we get (I know they'd improve just going to Blu), I would still be happy, but I'm hoping for a little more. I still trust Lucasfilm about this and I trust (and hope) that Star Wars will get high marks for video and audio.

By the way, that ILM documentary that premiered on Encore in November? Ten bucks says that documentary is part of the special features in the Saga boxset.

I've only seen pieces of it because I don't have Encore and I've been actively searching for a DVD release date or something.

Maybe it's on iTunes...?

If that's the reason, then it's certainly understandable for wanting to change things that were limited by technology back then but what about parts of the story like Han shooting first? Was that also not representative of what he was going for back then so he decided to change it? Just curious since I'm not as knowledgeable about Star Wars as some of you guys are.

I'm too busy to search but there was an interview with the mixers at Skywalker recently and they talked about remixing the BDs for 7.1

It sure would be nice to hear Williams' score in the rear channels as well.

I'm about 90% sure it will be in 7.1. They'd be setting themselves back if they didn't.

Tony Scott's Top Gun also received a G rating, and so Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis were asked back to add a sex scene. Meanwhile, ADR looped in several instances of off-screen profanity. Top Gun earned its PG.
Top Gun was always PG, borderline PG-13 for the love scene between Cruise & McGillis (it would certainly be rated PG-13 today).

The reshoot was to add a scene between the two to puff up the "romance" between them (the scene in the elevator), but McGillis had already cut her hair for another role so she had to wear the baseball cap.
