Here's a fan edited version of the Emperor scene, using his look from Return of the Jedi, and the dialogue and pacing fixed to match the original version of the scene. What do you think?

Right, I completely agree.

Boba Fett voice was the one I didn't like. The others were fine with me.

@hardback247. The guy doing that project was crazy spending all kinds of money, but I also feel he went too far from what I read. Lucas change was fine with me. Imoroved upon...of course. Perhaps Lucas could have in time had he not sold the series.

I don't know anyone that would prefer that bug eyed woman. That makes no sense.

The new Boba Fett voice was just terrible...one of the worst changes.

Well, the film's reputation was just fine for twenty-some years leading up to the change; it's not like this scene was holding the film back from being crowned "Greatest Star Wars Film of All Time".

I don't actively object to this change, as far as it goes, but it's still a change, and I'd rather watch the original 1980 theatrical release. That's the kind of hairpin I am.

I didn't say that, I said it wasn't a "necessary" change. An argument could be made that holograms can alter a persons apearance.

Personally, I think he should have been in there from the very beginning back in 1980.

That wasn't possible if he wasn't cast for the part yet?

With regard to the scene itself, this entire exercise is absurd. You're basically tying yourself in rhetorical knots trying to square a circle. You're trying to make sense of a change that isn't going to make sense no matter how you try to rationalize it.

Think about it. Your entire case for this supposed warning shot boils to down 'well, nothing else makes sense'. Your entire case is that Greedo had to be firing a warning shot because all the other competing explanations for his miss are even more ridiculous than the warning shot theory.

If from the very beginning Lucas had intended for both people seated at that table to get off a shot he might have been able to make that work. I mean, a gunfight with both parties seated at the same table would have still been more than a bit of a stretch but you never know, he might have been able to make that work.

But going back in years later and trying to turn that original scene into a gunfight with both parties seated at the same table?

That was a non-starter. It never had a chance.

But beyond that, with regard to this thread, your condescending dismissal of the people who reject your warning shot theory is also a little absurd.

Is it possible that the people critical of this particular change are blindly clinging to nostalgia with the fervor of religious zealots? Sure, that's possible.

But it's also possible that this was just a dumb change and 'geez, that was pretty ****ing dumb' is a completely reasonable, rational response.

I would also submit that 'who cares why Greedo missed, dress it up however you want and it's still a stupid change' is a perfectly reasonable, rational response to your warning shot theory.

Guys, I've been to this Prom before, the clothes are fun, the music is lame ...seriously, engaging this guy in argument, you're either getting punked, or you're talking to an acolyte...either way, you're wasting your time.

This thread has gotten almost as bad as The Great Distribution Rights Wars of early 2016. Almost.

Oh a little more than possible.

There are no circular knots (to paraphrase) with what I presented. Greedo's dialogue fits the warning shot.

It is absolutely a theory and an opinion, but one supported by more than a few facts.

The "stupid" is subjective. This comes from OT fans. I get that, and count me in as the one film fan (I know, I know, I said it a few times).

Look it is like I stated before. It is an informed opinion vs a religious cult.

But, let me lay one thing to rest once and for all. There are lots of things that I think don't gel with the series and while I understand why he did it, I don't think the series will ever be truly consistent....and this dates back before the special editions.

Star Wars had a buttload of unnecessary changes, but ones that do hav a degree of rationalization...from a certain point of view.

As it stands, the blurays as a 6 film set do work, and those are the ones I will always watch to go with the new movies.

...but my dream is to have an official release of Star Wars without the needless Episode IV A New Hope moniker.

In regards to the Emperor change, I can support it but I think Ian McDiarmid's performance in it is rather dull. He literally sounds like he's reason off cue cards and speaks them wayyy too slow. Also I found the tweaking of the dialogue to be very unnecessary. 'I have no doubt this boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker' 'How is this possible??' Seriously?? Stupid and completely makes Vaders search for Luke pointless! I actually didn't mind Adywan's redoing of the scene. At least it uses the ROTJ Emperor which helps the movie segue better into that film as well as restoring the original dialogue (with what was useable of course).

I'm out. The DJ is warming up the Village People's "YMCA" and Kool and the Gang "Celebration" and Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" from Purple Rain, and I really don't want see you good people dance to it.

Isn't the Emperor strong with the force as well? There is the whole "I have foreseen it" thing.

I agree the Adywan's redoing is better....but boy there are some others....
