When it comes to THX I'm like those people who grew up with the Star Wars SEs instead of the originals. I've never even seen the unaltered THX so I don't care.

Reminds me of the early HighDefDigest days and their format war bullshit.

"Yes but your BD-Java profile is slow compared to HD-DVD's gingblott interface, you peasant!"
You were there for that? Oh man, I was a member there at that time (that was just about 10 years now!) during that whole format war thing. I remember there was this one guy, Lestat, who treated the whole thing like some kind of religious crusade. He would call the marketing President of Toshiba "his Lady in Red" and post all kinds of weird shit. But yeah, so much bitter arguing over a disc-format for watching movies...

But on the topic of Star Wars, yeah, virtually nothing else goes on and on, its just Star Wars. Stuff like DC movies and MCU arguments will fade away long before this does I think.

After 2011, they stopped, all because Lucas will presumably not be involved with any future home video releases of his films. So the '11 versions are now the final SEs, for better or worse.

Disney doesn't need to do seamless branching for all the various changes. That's overkill. Let's not ask too much of them. Do we have seamless branching for any other Disney properties? I can't think of any.

Phantom Menace does deserve to have its original theatrical version released too, complete with that awkward puppet Yoda. It would be hypocritical to not include the original cuts of the prequel trilogy, unless they just re-release the original trilogy, and not the prequels. That would make things slightly less complicated.

Just release the unaltered original trilogy in Full HD/4K and be done with it.
I've always thought that if anything about the films should be considered "rough drafts," it was the 1997 Special Editions. They were basically "George Lucas Revisions: Phase 1." That being said, I think they are now a legit part of the film's history and I wouldn't mind if they were included, even if I'd rarely watch them (like having the workprint version of Blade Runner). Rumor has it they were the initial versions scanned in 4K since the original negative was cut into those versions.

And yes, I would actually appreciate a theatrical cut of Episode I. I'd trade having weird awkward Yoda puppet back for the tighter editing of the film (the pod race sequence was long enough already!) and a nice new remaster without all the DNR.

The revised ET didn't irk me as much as the Star Wars SEs did but I'm glad to see Spielberg learned the downfalls of movie revisionism.

Could someone help me come up with a good defense for Starkiller Base as being something other than "just another Death Star"?

It's a Death Star, that can shoot at multiple planets at one time.

And I believe it can also fire through hyperspace, so it doesn't actually need to be in the same star system as the planets it's destroying.

It also isn't quite as huge an engineering feat, as it was built within an existing planet.

Snoke was horrible CGI.

All these times of complaining of prequel CGI and Snoke was as bad as anything from 11-15 years ago. I know he's just a hologram but man... Leia holo from ANH looks better than he did.

Tarkin in R1 looked better than Snoke.

But Tarkin is a human and he didn't look like a real human to me, especially when he was talking.

Smoke isn't a human, or doesn't appear to be, so it's not as weird. But I agree that it was bad looking. Kind of reminded me of a CGI Voldemort.

I've never seen THX-1138. If I want to watch it, should I watch the official version or try hunting down a copy of the original version?

I think Tarkin CGI will come around for a lot of people.

I thought it was well done. Every time I watch R1, it looks better and better. My only complaint was Guy Henry didn't 100% match Peter Cushing's dialect and speech patterns. The voice was good enough, but Cushing's speech patterns were very unique when he'd form his sentences.

The original if you can, but I don't know what the best version available is.

Sardines and anchovies are both a mix of fish, oil and salt.

I enjoy one but not the other.

Funny how that works sometimes.

My defense is 'sure, it's obviously another Death Star but who cares, it's fun. It's not as much fun as the first one but it's a hell of a lot more fun than the second one'.

I've only ever seen the George Lucas Edition but would love to see the original. If you find somewhere that has the original please let me know.

I like the version that is available; it's a good dystopian sci fi movie with amazing atmospherics. Yeah the CGI inserts are clear but they don't detract from my enjoyment.
