Thumbs up Can't Wait

I saw Star Wars in the theaters when I was eight years old. A profound impact this movie had on my eight year old brain to say the least. That being said I am more inclined to favor the original trilogy. However, I do not hate the prequels like some, but I'm not crazy about them either. I do hate Jar Jar Binks though. So if one would buy either the first or second trilogy and not the complete set would one miss out on the ton of special features? If so I am afraid my hand will be forced to get the compete set version. Am I reading this correct or not?

Yeah, you have to buy the saga to get most of the special features (based on what basic info we have now).

I wonder if these movies are really good.
I mean I like sci-fi a lot, but maybe this is more of an action movie?

I prefer the saga as a whole more than I favor one trilogy. I like the whole package. Are there things in every movie that make me cringe...hell yes, and most of it has to do with acting to some degree or another. Is Star Wars the most awesome saga to hit the big screen...hell yes!

Preordered on day 1 and can't wait.

Each of the prequels made over $300 in the USA *alone*. A lot of people saw them, and saw them many times. A helluva lot more than fanboy favorites like Serenity or Watchmen.

Yet they pretend everyone agrees with them in their hate for them (& Lucas).
And that is the true mastery of Lucas. It's one thing to have those who love the movies talk about them, but to get the PT haters who claim to have no interest, and yet still can't stop talking about them is truly masterful. Poor bastards!

Unless you expect me to believe that a small minority of prequel lovers account for all the tickets sales and dvd purchases over the years, totalling billions of dollars worth of revenue, something just doesn't add up with your assertion. Most people are Star Wars Saga fans, not unaltered Original Trilogy fans, and I have the numbers to back me up. This is a capitalism, remember. People vote with their pocketbooks.
100% agreed!

Heh.

Well, with the VHS, LaserDiscs, DVDs, etc I've probably spent a grand on the films on video over the years. Not including the $90 I'm about to fork over for the BDs.

I'm sure you are in good company. I have the "regular" and "special editions" of Ep. 4-6 on laserdisc, along with an LD Japanese import of Episode 1. Lucas has the fans figured out, doesn't he? I just hope he keeps his word and never releases the original versions again.

You won't believe the amount of model work that went into the Prequels.

Prime example. More model work done in Episode I than the ENTIRE ORIGINAL TRILOGY.

The podrace in Episode I has a lot more model work than even I realized...
I have that book, its a good quick read. I was surprised to find out what was and wasn't CGI. It isn't as much as People think. I think 'fakeness' of the PT is more because some of the enviroments are very Alien compared to the OT. Now the CGI creatures, thats another story.

They should have used costumes and masks but use CGI to bring the faces to life.

Were you raised under a rock? Anyways what are now Episodes IV and V are considered to be among the best films made (original cuts mind you but the additions don't really impede the quality except maybe one in IV .) I believe They and Blade Runner are the only SCI-FI on AFI's Top 100 Movies, The Star Wars pieces are in the top 50 I believe.

To answer your question they are more adventure/SCI-FI

There no special editions, just Star Wars, as it was in 2004. Nowhere on the DVD box/cover says "special edition". There is only one version. The ones on the individual DVD releases are just "bonus features" nothing more.

And obviously most prequel lovers also loves the original trilogy, hence the low pre-order figure for the prequel set. Either way the the majority loves the whole saga.

Same here, plus The Definitive Collection on LD; although, I rarely watch them. The PT gets regular rotation though on my setup.

I love it when people bring up the fact that the prequels made a lot of money. You could put Star Wars on a brand of toilet paper and sales of that brand would go up. Just because Lucas is a masterful business man and was able to milk the world for nearly a billion dollars with the prequels does not make them good movies. Hell, the Transformers sequel made $836,297,228 and was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. (And I know quite a few people who agree)

My main argument is that they could have been WAY better with minimal changes. For starters, maybe if he'd let somebody else direct Attack of the Clones; you know, somebody who actually knows what two people who are in love should act/talk like.

And yes, I myself went to see the prequel films multiple times in theaters. I did this mainly because I treated them as 2 hours of being in the Star Wars universe (because I just love Star Wars that much, all my gripes aside) via the big screen as much as I possibly could. It very well may have been my last chance to, unless Lucas actually goes through with his plan to make another trilogy after he is done with the TV shows and he's done releasing the entire saga in 3D. As time passes and (hopefully) prices drop, I may decide to get the entire saga. However, if prices don't drop, and if there's a way I can get the original trilogy and Revenge of the Sith at 15 per movie, I will do that before I'll buy the entire saga.
