In a perfect world, "The Ultimate Box Set, including all 6 movies and all versions (SE and Unaltered)".

But we know Georgie Boy won't do that on the first release.

I'd hugely prefer the unaltered original trilogy, but I can't see that happening so I'd settle for the altered version of the original trilogy (even though I don't dig any of the changes.)

The newer prequels are just awful, I wouldn't even bother. Forcing myself to sit through each of them in the theater was tough enough..... just so.... boring...

If the unaltered original trilogy only came in a big "ultimate" set I'd buy it just for the unaltered original trilogy and use the other discs as coasters or something.

I picked Phantom Menace as my favorite movie. It was the first Star Wars movie that I had a chance to see in theatres. The first movie that I was really excited to see. I have the last VHS box set of the original trilogy but the movie seemed like history. The movies had its time and was created before I was born. So the introduction of the new trilogy allowed the series to become current. I loved the Phantom Menace themed video games, the marketing surrounding it. I like the characters (except Jar Jar), I found Padme to be hot (I was young at the time), the Jedi were cool, the planets were cool, the droids were cool. I liked everything about it. I still do. I would love to find a copy of that Playstation game again, it was a lot of fun.

That is why Phantom Menace is my favorite.

The Ultimate. As much as I love the original trilogy, I'm willing to wait for any definitive version (if one will actually exist!).

I want the latest and greatest visual effect version, 'cause I'm one who believes that no version so far has gone far enough with the changes. I hope to God they redo the laser blasts in ANH and TESB. No more red smears. Gimme the white core with surrounding colored glows. And of course, please make persistant the color and luminosity of the light sabers. I think why the colors of the sabers in the '04 DVD set were inconsistant was because Lowy was in a rush and the DVD release itself was rushed. They didn't take the time to do everything right, when they should have. It shouldn't be too hard to re-roterscope the sabers in the OT.

I think I beat this game 20 times or so and I still have it. One think I like about the Prequel Trilogy over the Original one are the Lightsaber fights. Darth Maul is my favorite character and the fight against Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon was EPIC! The duel between old Obi-wan and Darth Vader in The New Hope was pretty lame.

Yeah, the EE was pretty bad. And I'm not usually a critic of EE, but it was extremely noticeable with this DVD.

I think it's going to look great on BD. I don't think the effects are dated a lot. To me they hold up very well.
Yeah, there's nothing wrong whatsoever about the effects, it's just that we don't have an acceptable transfer on home medium yet.

I imagine the Library of Congress has a copy, and there are definitely copies in private hands that could be used if he really wanted to. The thing is, Lucas doesn't want any good copies of the OT so he'll say stuff like this.
I'm just going on the logic stemming from the creation of the '97 SEs and then the Lowry restoration for the '04 DVDs. Let me explain.

For the '97s SEs, George Lucas changed the films with newly added CG elements and of course restored the films somewhat. At this time, ANH was 20 years old.

For the '04 DVDs, Lowry took the '97 SE prints and restored those and did additonal color timing changes. At this time, ANH was 27 years old. The film was in pretty bad shape by this time. Save it now or never save it.

The original unaltered prints have never been restored. And now 33 years later, ANH is probably falling apart. Even the Library of Congress copy. Remember, we're talking '70s film stock here that had a tendency to fade to red.

Now then, if Lucase did restore the original print before he made the '97 SE verison, then yes, maybe there is a decent copy out there somewhere, but from what Lucas has said over the years, I have to believe, if I take him at his word, that the originals don't exist anymore in a viable state.

And quite frankly, I don't care. Because even before the '97 SEs, I was hoping that the films would be updated, visual effect wise, and was actually disappointed that more changes weren't made. A totally redone TIE-Fighter attack on the Falcon would have been cool.

I had the PC game which was basically a top down isometric adventure game that told the story of the whole movie, while going deeper into the world. The biggest thing with it was using Obiwan and Quigon to slash down a bunch of droids.

Of course, that won't happen. But I can dream, can't I?
