Nobody knew that math could be so complicated.

^ Read this again, guys. In due time (if not already finished) every piece of film in Lucasfilm's archive ever shot for the OT will be archived digitally.

The idea that the OT "doesn't exist anymore" is complete BS.

Ohh, interesting. I knew about 16:9 being 4:3 squared, but not about the 21:9. Thanks for that.

Interesting, but why would someone have the idea of creating a new aspect by multiplying 4/3 by itself?

If I have to venture a guess, It's a half-way medium to arriving at ~scope from ~academy, 4/3 * 4/3 * 4/3. Digital interpolation is fairly simplistic, "given 3 pixels, create 4 for output," or "given 4 pixels, create 3 for output."

Math makes my head hurt. Let's get back to making fun of the prequels and trashing George Lucas.

On a kind-of-not-really-but-maybe-related note, it's this simplicity which is why Blu-ray to UHD upscaling is so darned good: 1920x1080 into 3840x2160 requires a nice clean x2 uprez along each axis, it's a much harder process to get wrong than to get right IMO! Of all the things that 4K TVs got to worry about, upscaling people's current Blu-ray collections is NOT one of them.

We don't need anything to confirm it's BS. We know it's BS.

The point is that, unless it's released, it doesn't matter if it was scanned or what they have.

It means a means of making major $$$ in the future when they decide to take advantage of it.

Whether you guys believe me or not isn't the point (and I'm not gonna provide anything concrete for you guys to hold to, so no reason to ask).

The point is that Lucasfilm will be able to present the OOT in top quality in the future with little more work than they are already putting into their archiving efforts. I've seen the old "the OOTs no longer exist!" crap crop up again (not necessarily here), and it's just comes from a place of ignorance.

No doubt it is complete BS, as even the most rudimentary fan efforts have provided HD scans from badly faded prints. The resources and superior element sources in the archives should be able to provide a high quality restoration, even if the OCN are fubar'd, access to a near pristine LPP print could even provide the basis for a 4K preservation of the theatrical cuts.

Disney is releasing one movie a year that's making millions off of the franchise for them.

You're living in a fool's paradise if you think any home video release will bring them "major money" like that. *IF* they did it, it would be as a goodwill gesture for fans. It's not worth as much monetarily as you think it does.
