Eh, can't please them all. I personally prefer Rogue One to TFA, but I'm not about to go around telling everyone TFA is garbage just because St. George didn't make it.

JJ wrote the outline and the "story" beats. Kasdan fleshed it out.
Your friend is mostly correct.
He is wrong with the fact the Lucas never compromised his vision.
Jar Jar was to have a larger role in Episode II but due to backlash, the character was neutered and cut down on screen time.

JJ is not a Star Wars fan, at least not the one he claims to be.
Just like Sam Raimi is not a Spider-Man fan. Sam for the longest time kept going on and on about how he was a Spidery fan since he was a kid and had his parents paint a Spidey mural on his wall.
A few years of hearing this and Ted (his brother) got sick of it and said that "It wasn't Spider-Man, it was Superman."

All of JJ Abrams's movies have received mostly positive reviews from critics and moviegoers alike. Why is it so cool for some people on the web to bash him to bits?

Most of his stuff is decent.
His Star Wars and Star Trek are atrocious!

You think you know what "atrocious" is? Then you obviously never saw the Star Wars Holiday Special.

I own it, thank you very much. I bought the bootleg VHS at Icon back in '98 or '97... I forget which year.
I watched it every year at Christmas Time for about 4 or 5 years...

Sebastian Shaw will always be most people's Anakin Skywalker even though he only got about 5 minutes in the original unaltered Return Of The Jedi, but then Lucas had to go back and alter Return Of The Jedi after he did the prequel trilogy so he could replace Shaw and add in Hayden since Lucas felt like Anakin's Force Ghost should represent his life when he was still good before he went to dark side and got burned all over.

None of the NuTrek cast hold a match, not even a candle to the originals!
The closest one would be Quinto, but only because he somewhat resembles Mr. Nimoy.
Maybe if we had better writers and a director, the NuTrek cast wouldn't feel so terrible in comparison to the originals. We know the stories could be a lot better... They couldn't really get much worse unless Lindloff was writing!

That's fine with me since I basically grew up with Hayden as Anakin anyway. I'm sure as a very small kid I saw the original version of the trilogy but I remember nothing of them. I have however seen the special editions countless times & I love the prequel trilogy better then every other film except Empire Strikes Back. It also fits better with continuity.

You should tell him that except for the part about Lucas answering to his shareholders, he's absolutely right. I agree with him.

Ultimate Lightsaber was: https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-84850-.../dp/B0007YDCK4
It came with a DVD that showed how to fight using a lightsaber and 2 episodes of the Clone Wars. I believe the first series. Not the CG one. I may be wrong, I never actually watched it. I've had it all these years though...
Stars of Star wars:
Thanks for the info. Other than the bonus discs to the prequel trilogy and the cool music videos on the Revenge soundtrack, lots of the bonus seems to be a waste....oh yeah Empire of Dreams is pretty cool too.

The interviews look interesting on the Stars of Star Wars.

I apologize for my lack of punctuation and for my poor semtence structure. Those are not always my top priorities while browsing movie forums on mobile.

By all means, continue to fret about how two studios cannot possibly overcome their differences to release a film franchise that they have continued to release on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital since October 2013.

I loved the new stuff it got me back into both series.

I saw the the complete series for Star Wars on sale at Amazon but they don't come with the digital copies yet, so I'll wait 5 more years and pick them up on the next format that hopefully come with the digital copies.

I sold my DVD's about 4 years ago.
