The first LucasFilm movie to use the 70MM 5.1 format was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Funny though how after long it took them to embrace stereo-surrounds that The Phantom Menace was the first film ever in 6.1 (Dolby Digital Surround EX)...which used 5.1 channels with a "phantom" center surround channel. Both Skywalker Sound and Dolby came up with the technique to mix and encode 5.1 EX together.

Dolby EX and DTS ES sucked. I always found it imperceptible in the theater.

Ever wonder why you have no friends here or why you like to bicker so much?

I don't have discussions to gain popularity, nor do I bend my point of view to gain "friends".

If you have 5 true friends in life you are a lucky man. The rest are acquaintances at best.

"Bickering" in your point of view is not going along with the mob. Ever wonder why you have been worried with what I do and follow me from thread to thread?

Really?

Back in the day I remember using two Prologic amps to get the extra channel and found the extra "phantom" channel quite perceptable. The old Prologic center and surround no less so.

The Star Wars original 35mm stereo is a great example, with the Luke/Leia swing scene being a prime example of what matrixed sound is capable of.

I want to know when they're going to release official theatrical cuts. The Harmy Despecialized ones are pretty good, but not official.

No, you don’t “bend”, you just endlessly harangue folks until they weary of attempting to reason, or even commune, with you. Arrogance isn’t wisdom, and leaving room for other opinions is not weakness. Like your truly strange “Jar Jar Binks is no more annoying to me than C3PO. Matter of fact, at some times...even less so.” Stated as if it’s a factually founded judgment and not merely a weird minority opinion. There’s a legion of folks who couldn’t/can't tolerate Jar Jar, but I don’t recall any chorus rising against C3PO. Did you find R2D2 annoying as well? I musta missed something because I thought they were both beloved among Star Wars freaks. By the way, nobody “follows” you from thread to thread”, it’s just that like a bad penny, you keep turning up and flashing everybody with your “opinions as fact/I'm right, you're so wrong” routine. Like Cream once sang: “What A Bringdown” …

Anyway, after watching Rogue One yesterday, I watched A New Hope tonight. Noticeably “weaker” audio, not quite the visual polish - but it still rated a 10 with me due to it’s energy and freshness. It wasn’t hamstrung or weighted down by carrying a past, it was too busy energetically building a future. Still my favorite episode of the series - at least so far.

Edit: Very weird. I noticed when watching my new disc (from the Darth Vader set) that the English subs didn't function. Even though I'd checked with Fox when I bought it (useless), I immediately feared I gotten a pirated copy after all - but the subs were working on the first three episodes. So I popped in my disc from my original non-original trilogy set, and the subs were working. Not only that, but the sound was louder/fuller and I'd almost swear that the picture was a generation richer/brighter. Exact same disc artwork, wtf?

I'd suspect it's Go-Mer Tonic or Go-Mer Tonic 2.0...which is why I don't fall for it. CaptVeg will know what I'm talking about. Geez, what a waste of time that was, CV...

Again, because I don't follow the crowd. Funny how "they" are always the same few people.

I find C3PO just as annoying many times over. It is how I feel. Should I change because others don't feel that way? So if the "majority" don't feel that way, then I should be forced to keep it to myself?

R2D2 is a character I like quite a bit. And????

Notice I said TO ME, in your quote. That is how I feel.

Did you or others ever think what a "bring down" it is constantly hammering how supposedly bad the prequels are?

I get it...I feel different, so I must be attacked to no end. It is a mob mentality, plain and simple.

You look very comfortable up on your cross, pardner. One problem, I've never attracted you. Tonight I just couldn't help but comment because I'm so tired of seeing/hearing this shit. If you would let your incessant arguing go, this "mob" you speak of, if it exists, would simply fade away - or find some other target. But, it appears, that you're incapable of seeing your part in all this - or you just dig it. Either way, it's a bore.

I didn't find Threepio annoying in the OT...but it's odd how no one has been able to write that character correctly since 1983. This might be his best scene in the PT.

Here is my impression of how it goes.

I hate prequels, I hate Hayden, I hate Jake, where is the UOT..... NO ONE LIKES THE SPECIAL EDITIONS. NO ON LIKES HAN SHOOTING LAST...

Then I post...hey some of us may think differently, I for one have some thoughts..you know like when I say TO ME, IMHO...

Then I get a "you are so argumentative, you have no friends, how dare you post as fact, how dare you feel this way!!!".

Then guess what....

I hate Jake, I hate Hayden, I hate Attack of the Clones. The "despecialized" is boss!!! repeat...

When was the last time anyone actually discussed anything good about the films? When was there any constructive discussion without it turning into a hate filled rant against the prequels?

On the cross??? Please. It isn't just me that is attacked. Anyone that supports prequels are the targets, and it is complete and utter CRAP!

You obviously don't see your hypocrisy and it is quite sad. Most of the times I post in response, I give examples to show what others are doing. And just like here...it flies right over their heads. You know why? Because it is the OT fan club, and no one else is getting in unless they feel the same way. It is bullying plain and simple, and I am calling it for what it is.

C3PO is annoying TO ME!!!, but the only reason I stated it is because of the usual Jar Jar hate talk got go along with the rest of the rants. I say one thing and it is a "FACT" yet how many frickin' pages do we get of the other side where you say nothing? People are actually posting as if they speak for others, and because I say TO ME, and it somehow carries more weight? WHAT??? You even quoted where I said TO ME, and you still didn't get it.

I feel one way, and I should be allowed to post it, the same of the others, but unlike the others, I don't do it often. I like most aspects of the 8 films (and animation), so for you to target on that one comment is to miss the entire point.

That was effing STUPID!
The droid body was being controlled, not his mind.
I HATED 3PO in Clones!
That and the "This is such a drag." line were atrocious!

I know. And that line was his best moment in the PT. I winced. Again, no one has given poor Threepio any decent moments since 1983.

I'm still confused by 3PO's lines in The Phantom Menace...
"I find that Jar Jar creature very odd."

a few minutes later
To R2: "You're right, He is quite odd, indeed."

WTF? R2 didn't say it ya daffy robot, you did!

To be clear, I have never ever had a problem with Jake's performance. When you quoted me, it quotes out of context and makes it look like I feel that way.

Then again, in this section of the messageboard, I just might be more accepted if people really thought I felt that way.

xxxxxxxxxxx

As for C3PO in the prequels, he seemed to be the same annoying way he has always been. I mean for crying out loud, it is still Anthony Daniels, and he sounds just as pompous British proper as always.

There's a place for people like you that gladly welcomes your brand of militant revisionism and wholesale lack of common sense. I suggest you go there and never come back.
