In Giacchino's defense, he stepped in under bad circumstances after the original score composer suddenly had to leave for other commitments. If you believe that, but anyway. Giacchino had to run in front of a train going 200 mph to get that done, still managed some great moments. Not ideal working conditions, but it happens.

But he still doesn't look much like John Williams. He needs to grow a beard first.

Heck, I was thinking about the music in Rogue One earlier this very day for no particular reason, some of the cues just popped into my head. I get that a lot.
Yeah I think he phoned it in as well. I was hoping for some more JW greatness but instead we got JW mehness.

Rogue One's score is better but it's still a far cry from the music of 1-6 imo.

Hopefully Johnny Boy's delivered with The Last Jedi.

Giacchino has done some fantastic scores; it's too bad he only had a few months to do the music in ROGUE ONE. Some of Giacchino's previous work includes THE INCREDIBLES, UP, and JOHN CARTER. For 2016, Giacchino also did the score for DR. STRANGE if you want to compare recent work.

Dues of the Fates and a few other PT themes are amazing, but most of JW's themes during the quiet scenes was distracting and subpar I thought.

My favorite music in all the Star Wars movies are the quiet, melodic pieces. In The Force Awakens I really like Rey's theme as it's heard towards the end of the track called The Scavenger.

Every spinoff movie should have a different composer, specifically to evaluate a range of options for someone to take over from JW on the main saga. Has anyone been announced for Han Solo?

I like JW's Force Awakens score, but it doesn't really rank with the Prequels'. Say what you will about those movies, but the scores are magnificent.

MG's Rogue One score is good, esp. considering the circumstances, but it wasn't great. I'd definitely give him another shot. He really phoned it in on Doctor Strange, repurposing his Star Trek theme. His Cloverfield end-credits number earns him some passes in my book, though.

John Powell is scoring Han Solo.

A few months? Try 4 and 1/2 weeks to write it!

At the time, it left me with literally four and a half weeks to write. So it was one of those decisions where you’re like, okay, well… And I was talking to my brother about it. He goes, “Oh, come on. You’ve been writing this score since you were 10! You can do this.”

Either way, just like the Ep 7 score, Rogue One's score has grown on me and I do enjoy it. I'm a fan of Giacchino's work, it may not be the best Star Wars score of all time, but I personally think he did a fine job. Especially considering the very short window he had to work with.

I was lucky enough to see John Williams conduct in LA a few weeks ago at the Hollywood Bowl. He did a fantastic job and I certainly hope he sticks around for Episode 9.

The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, and Inside/Out are amazing ear-candy. Pure joy to the ear and the heart. Giacchino has never won an Oscar, neither has Thomas Newman. If Newman couldn't win for Finding Nemo, no composer needs to feel slighted.

Giacchino is my favorite modern composer - first loved his stuff on LOST - "LIfe and Death" still chokes me up:

With the Emperor destroyed and his father redeemed, a greater knowledge of all things force might tempt Luke to want find a better way than the Jedi order way and the Sith way that came before.

I also think that the way that Anakin's turn was depicted, and it being the only depiction of someone actually turning to the dark side, as immediately turning on and murdering all your friends and colleagues, has skewed people's impressions of what turning to the darkside can actually mean.

What if Luke felt that all new trainees needed to be more aware of what the darkside meant, rather than just narrow dogma, in order to prevent the same mistakes caused by the "arrogance" of the old Jedi order being repeated.

All of that makes sense. I meant that I think it would be a bad idea if Luke turned to the Dark Side and did some horrible things. But if he just wanted to learn about the Dark Side and at the same time get away from the dogma of the Jedi, that could be interesting and probably a good idea. I wouldn't exactly consider that turning to the Dark Side though. I'd think of that as transcending the idea of two sides. And I think he was already starting down that path when he ignored Yoda's and Obi-Wan's warnings and left Dagobah to try to save his friends. I like Yoda and Obi-Wan a lot, but all the Jedi in the prequels are very dogmatic and not that likable, except maybe Qui-Gon. I don't necessarily equate the Jedi with the Light Side either. I think the Light Side should be more about compassion and I don't see the Jedi as being very compassionate. Maybe a long time ago they were, but the ones in the prequels don't seem to be. In the new trilogy, I hope Luke will be able to overcome whatever trauma he went through and will come out stronger than he was before.

Has someone tested yet, if the US 2015 release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga (with Darth Vader on the box) is Region Free or not?
