Watching the 95 laserdiscs on my plasma the image wuality hurtful to eyes but the audio in Dolby Surround is great on Laserdisc

Interestingly neither the Definitve Ld Set or the 95 LDs contain the original Star Wars opening crawl.

You know, I’d really love to know the genuine reason why proper scores haven’t been released for any of the movies outside of the original three.

I know Phantom Menace got that “ultimate edition” and while I appreciate what they attempted, most of the tracks end on an abrupt cut as it goes from one scene from the movie to the next. So if you’re listening to it in like a playlist (as I usually do) sometimes it’s a bit jarring. Is it possible that it’s a John Williams thing? Like is there a reason he wouldn’t want all of his music for those movies to be available?

I’d love proper two-disc CD sets for the prequels and the sequels.

None of the video release aside from the 2006 DVD had the original crawl and funny enough the 2006 DVDs come from the same masters as the Definitive Collection LD set.

I still have my 2006 DVD OT. I refuse to watch the defilement that’s plagued the OT since 1997.

Converting the 4X3 widescreen to 16X9 with editing software makes it a bit more presentable - it also magnifies the many defects in the image - a jagged-edged, smeary, motion blurred mess - is what I must put up with to see the original (or close to) versions.

Not to mention Alien subtitles being cut off the screen without proper picture reformatting.

Watched Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back earlier today. Getting ready to put Return Of The Jedi on, I wonder if they find Han and if Vader is really Luke's father?

Are they the same tracks as the original releases? If so, that would mean Yub Nub is on the ROTJ disc.

They've always tried to put the alien text in, but some English slipped through, either by design or mistake (the interrogation period's syringe has 'Made in England' on it). So when the special editions were conceived they had the opportunity to change it, but Lucasfilm as always wasn't very consistent.
I think it’s also possible to suspend disbelief with the English text. But I don’t think the characters are speaking a different language and the English is just for our benefit. I think of the Star Wars universe as an alternate reality and the language they’re speaking is literally the same language as English, just that maybe it’s not called English.

Lucky enough to have a Star Wars loving GF and she recommended watching our despecialized A New Hope tonight. It's still a thrill to have Han blow Greedo away in cold blood and seeing the Death Star assault without any digital tinkering is a real testament to the great work done on the original production.

My disc says it includes a 1977 stereo mix and it sounds outstanding on my surprisingly effective Vizio soundbar. I always crank it right around when Luke turns off his targeting computer and leave it at ear slipping volume for the throne room sequence and credits.

The despecialized editions are great! I have a huge amount of respect for the people that put the work into restoring these. I find it absolutely amazing that people in their spare time can do that work that “professionals” refuse to do.

And then there are the people selling Blu-ray copies on places like eBay who are also a huge help. I bought a set of the trilogy and it looks very professional and the quality is great.

Thank goodness for dedicated fans!

NEVER PAY for a copy of the Despecialized STAR WARS trilogy. These ‘people’ are cockroaches, they profit off of the hard work done by others and draw unwanted attention to the fan restorations.

Yes the Despecialized Editions are great, but the people who are selling these on ebay are doing a great disservice to Harmy and the fans. No one should have to pay money for these. They are available online in various forms, and for those who do not have the means to deal with downloads there are many kind individuals online who would likely be willing to help them out, but please do not endorse the sale of these fan made preservations.

Yes don’t pay money for the DeSpecialized. They’re not meant for profit. Harmy himself even stresses that people downloading his versions are required to own the official BDs because he is by no means trying to prevent LF from making money.

I honestly don’t mind paying. The way I see it, they’re putting together the discs, artwork, etc. etc. that I don’t have the means (or the patience haha) for, so I consider THAT what I’m paying for. It’s just more convenient for me to pop in a disc than turn on my computer... wait for it to start up... connect it to the TV with an HDMI cable.. and so on.

And of course I have the official Blu-rays that I got at launch.

I'd almost bought them a few times on Ebay just because I liked the nice cases I'd seen with them, on bd50 discs, have bonus stuff on, disc labels printed on the disc and not a sticker label and has the newest versions of the despecialized versions. But I can't afford them. I dont know how to download them, no hardware to burn them on a disc or print a label on the disc, or the know how to make case artwork. To me I'd be happy to pay for someone's effort going into making a nice set for me. But like I said I can't afford it.

I do understand how buying these on ebay might seem like an easier alternative for someone who does not possess the means to put these together themselves, However doing so goes completely against the cause that has allowed fantastic projects like this one to come into being, and it is putting money into the pocket of some toolbag who is profiting off of someone else's efforts.

If you get in contact with the right people, it is very easy to find someone who may be able to help you out. I did not have the capability to get these myself either but I managed to find someone who was able to provide them to me.

I cannot stress enough that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone drop a dime for these on ebay.

You can watch video files (.mp4, .mkv) on your tv by putting the files on a USB drive (flash drives/jump drives work great) and plugging it into your blu-ray player or smart tv.

Note that not all players will play all video/audio codecs, though. An .mp4 recorded with H264 and AAC should play on most devices. HEVC/H265 can be problemetic on a lot of tvs/players and will need to be re-encoded in most cases unless you're playing them on a computer.
