George Lucas doesn't have the best judgement:

The Jedi Rocks addition is single handedly my most hated addition in all the trilogy! It drives me up a ****ing wall!

Vader's "NO!" is much worse imo. The worst change to SW ever made. Love the Victory Celebration change in ROTJ.

All of the changes that are obvious CGI are the worst changes in my opinion. Films in the late 70s/early 80s didn’t have effects like that so they just take me out of the movie.

Vader's conflict between saving his son and obeying his master by looking back and forth silently is my favorite scene in the history of film. Just the way he moves back and forth you can tell his anguish even with a mask on. So naturally Lucas would have to f**k it up with that "No, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" BS.

The only decent change/fix is the wampa arm error and even that should have been left alone.

One change I like - and it's not really a change, just a reinstatement of a deleted scene - is the Luke/Biggs reunion scene. It felt necessary, given that Luke mentions Biggs a couple times early in A New Hope, but in the theatrical version he doesn't even acknowledge him again until the Death Star battle.

I can't imagine preferring Yub Nub, to be honest, but each to their own.

What I'm about to suggest is probably in this thread tons of times....but I'm still going to mention it..... so please no one freak out and chew me out...

Get or Make a Set of Harmy's Despecialized Trilogy on Bluray. They are absolutely AMAZING.

We will all be dead waiting on an official release from Disney. They would never put in the same level of restoration work to make an official release happen.

Here's a few pics of my set that I put together around Dec 2017....

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: it never ceases to amaze me that we have to rely on fans to get this kind of stuff because the official companies just... won’t. But thank goodness for the fans who actually do care.

Would it really be so difficult to release a product like this, officially?

If Disney wanted to (and were allowed to and were also lazy), they could just take Harmy’s Despecialized Editions and release them officially.

I think they’d take the M. Verta restoration (STAR WARS) for sure.

The packaging no.... the actual restoration of the 3 films to near 100% theatrical accuracy in HD 1080p... yes.

Disney would have the funds to do it sure..... but they don't care. To them it would be an 'Extra' and not worth the time and effort.

But thankfully Harmy has done all the work and released it for free.

I'll be honest.... I NEVER watch the 'Specialized' versions anymore.

I ONLY own the Complete Set on Bluray because the 'legal' gentleman's agreement to owning the Harmy set is owing the official releases on Bluray.

That way the Harmy Despecialized set is legally just you the owner and fan making a 'for home/personal use EDIT'.

I agree though that it's ridiculous to jump through such hoops just to watch all 3 films as original presented theatrically.

Is it available for download? How does it compare to 4K77?

The person responsible for the restoration is a fan of the original film.
He planned to - or has - used the finished restoration for a presentation to try to convince Disney to release the original versions.

Wasn't that the guy who supposedly worked at Lucasfilm and had access to a print or something?

He definitely made the presentation, and apparently there was no interest at the time.
