Yes. Also, I believe the last time the unaltered originals were released was on the original VHS box set (black box, not special edition).

My Incredible is the same way! I get so pissed off that they don't include pop culture words. It just doesn't make sense to me!

Interesting! Not sure I've heard that perspective before, but I'm glad to hear it exists. I'll wager my young nephew (he's nearly 9) feels the same way or will feel the same way when he gets older.

RE: Canon -

Shadows of the Empire
I'm not sure the whole game is considered canon, but Lucas did include Dash Rendar's ship taking off from Mos Eisley in TPM, so there's a good argument for it.

Thrawn Trilogy
The capital of the Republic was not named until Zahn named it Coruscant in these books, which Lucas took and used. Again, doesn't mean that the books are completely canon, but Lucas at least liked something from them.

With that logic, the entire wish list forum might as well be shut down. Hell, maybe this entire site.

Exactly. I have that black box (THX), not special edition. And I've put it up for sale on Craigslist on several occasions. And you know what? Not a single bit of interest. So maybe everyone who wants the untouched OT already has it or maybe the people who think they want it only want it on Blu, but my impression is that there's a few very vocal people who want the untouched OT and no one else really cares very much.

If you examine the screen shots that someone posted a link to, there are about 175 changes to each film for the SE's. They mostly fall into the following categories:
a) Fixing mattes and other technical artifacts.
b) Redoing the opticals for better quality (especially the wipes).
c) Slight trims: adding/deleting frames here and there
d) Adding additional objects to existing scenes; enhancing or extending sets
e) context changes: Han shooting first/last, etc.
f) Extending scenes (dance in Jabba's place in VI)

I don't see why anyone would object to a), b) or c). Some people might object to d), but in every example posted, it does look better IMO. I can understand objections to e), but we're talking a few minutes at most out of over six hours. Pretty much the same for f).

People object to adding Haydensen to the end of VI, but imagine you were watching the films in story order for the first time. If they didn't change it, you wouldn't really know who the character was. I really don't see why this bothers people so much. It might be a little inconsistent: Why is Anakin young but Obi-Wan and Yoda old, but one can make the case that as a ghost, you take the form you were when you died and for all practical purposes, Anakin died young before he became Darth Vader.

- 75% of the people voted on this site to have the unaltered original movies in the new bluray set (in the main star wars thread)

- Well, Anakin didn't physically die till he was old. You can argue that his light side died when obiwan cut him down, but he didn't keel over till he was old. So having him young at the ending doesn't make sense.

I preordered the minute it was available to do so! I don't care about the whole 'which trilogy is better, blah blah blah..." I just want HD Star Wars on my HD tv (I appreciate the efforts by Spike and HBO, but nothing beats a disc imo). Cannot wait until Sept! Might very well be the only blu rays I buy this year...lol

For anyone wanting to know, the THRAWN TRILOGY is the absolute best episode 7-9 out there.

It's basically the aftermath, and the remaining emperial forces... including the the Empires BEST Admiral!

I would love to see Lucasarts make an animated series, like the Clone Wars, based on this trilogy!

That game was awesome. Where in TPM do you see his ship? wasn't it called either the Outlander or Outrider?

My favourite EU story Arc is the Kyle Katarn stuff.

Dash Rendar's Outrider is actually in the current editions of A New Hope.

Quote:
Outrider is one of the few C-canon elements from the Expanded Universe which is adopted in G-canon (the films). In addition to its appearance in Shadows of the Empire, the ship also appears in the special edition of A New Hope.

Same here. I'd love to have the option to play the theatrical or extended cut of each film on the blu set including all the deleted and extended scenes that Lucas can conjure up.

I'd say his light side was gone when he slaughtered a room full of small children.

The option to watch whatever version we wanted would be nice, but in all reality, I would probably never watch the original, unaltered versions of the OT. Yes, I love the original vesrions and think they should be preserved & made available to the public. But the honest truth (from my point of view) is that they look and feel seriously outdated. Now I know the special editions do not bring them up to today's stanfards, but they're a Hell of a lot better. Does that mean I agree with all the changes? Absolutely not. But the changes are GL's call, not mine. On sheer visual presentation, I find it difficult to watch the unaltered versions at this point... Pure & simple. Including all the available versions would probably either compromise quality or add more discs to the set. Given the choice, I would opt for the SE versions. Who knows, maybe they're changing it back to Han shoots first?

Anakin redeemed himself with Return of the Jedi. As Luke said, there was still good within him. Replacing the original actor with whatshisface in the Special Edition ending has never made sense to me.

While I really couldn't care less whether it's Sebastian or Hayden... I do agree with you. I think the whole scene was kinda goofy, but you are correct that Anakin had returned to the light side before his death, so the spirit should have been that of the elder Anakin.

Personally, I don't think any Anakin should have been present. If you remember, the Jedi only learned how to communicate with the living after Qui-Gon's death. Obi-Wan spent some of his time on Tatooine learning that from Qui-Gon. Anakin shouldn't have been able to appear as a spirit just like that.
