To be fair, it seems like those Celebration folks go absolutely ga-ga over absolutely everything. I'm not certain that their always unwavering Star Wars media adoration counts for too much in the grand scheme of things (box office takings rely on normal people as well). They were also massively cheering for the Jar Jar Binks actor if I recall correctly which basically backs up my first sentence.

It would have been massively cruel if they all booed him.

I'm sure it would. But there's a big difference between normal applause and a standing ovation (which apparently happened).

What are you insinuating? That all of the people who applauded Ahmed Best are just sheep?

Do you think Jar Jar Binks deserves a standing ovation?

It's not the actor's fault, you know. Are you saying that they should continue the same kind of cruel behavior that drove Kelly Marie Tran off of social media?

The actor ≠ the character.

Sure, there's plenty of fans who threw a fit and don't like TLJ, and that's fine, but don't gatekeep with this whole "True Fan" hyperbolic crap and say REAL fans hate it and NOBODY is excited for more, because that is just empirically not true, dude.
I really don't understand the massive backlash for TLJ either. I honestly really enjoyed it when I saw it opening night and my opinion didn't change the other 3 times I've seen it since. I don't consider it to be any worse than the prequels and I enjoyed those too (for the most part). Is it my favorite? No, but it's definitely not the worst film I've ever seen, quite far from it actually.

My excitement for new Star Wars movies hasn't waned since The Force Awakens, but it is disheartening to see all the negativity surrounding the franchise as of late. I'm not the type of person who just blindly kisses Lucasfilm's ass and falls in love with everything they release either. There's no denying they've put out some duds before, but I honestly don't see why this movie gets so much hate.

They are just slaves to their own pre-conceptions as to how Star Wars should and shouldn't be.

Ahmed Best had a rough time after all the Jar Jar hate. I didn't like Jar Jar any more than the rest of them but there's no way I would blame the actor. Just as I wouldn't blame Kelly Tran for disliking her character.

The difference between Jar Jar and Rose is that I actually UNDERSTAND why people would dislike Jar Jar.

Or it's been 20 years and his target audience that grew up watching and enjoying Jar Jar are now adults and appreciate the cgi physical comedian that he was. Ahmed Best deserved that standing ovation, f even if it was just for dealing with this toxic fandom's crap.

I'd have stood up for Ian McDiarmid.

The STAR WARS duds haven’t stopped since 1983 (discounting the 1978 Holiday Special). Some films are more successful than others, but all have been disappointing.

IMO, the first two films (1977 & 1980) set the bar the others cannot reach, including, sadly, the third chapter in the original trilogy.

Nope. I don’t have any problem with DISNEY - or anybody else - taking the characters in new and unexpected directions. I never followed the EU novels and comics, never was interested in that stuff, just the movies.

The sequels lack originality.
