Not for me. The passage of time has done nothing to soften the dislike I have for the prequels. The films are just as bad as they were on original release.

Frankly, I enjoyed TLJ a little more than TFA mainly because the viewer is able to connect with Rey on an emotional level. The only major problems I have with TLJ is Luke's character because he is far removed from the man we saw at the end of ROTJ. You could almost say he is an entirely different person and I don't see the death of a few students changing him as much as the film presents.
I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said here, but it’s that first sentence I especially agree with.

I think it all just has to do with the age we live in. Everyone seems to want to dislike everything. And it’s not just Star Wars, it’s, like, every fandom. Somewhere along the way, it just seemed like no one wanted to like anything. And maybe it was always like that but without the Internet anonymity, those people weren’t as vocal so it wasn’t as noticeable.

But, my god, I remember when it used to be fun to be a fan of something. Now it’s like if I see something I like, I’ll go online and I’ll see people talking about it as if it murdered their ****ing families (and that especially applies to The Last Jedi lol).

I’m not saying everyone has to think everything is amazing. Lord knows I have my own problems with The Last Jedi (which I’m using as an example since this is the Star Wars thread lol) and I consider it to be my least favorite of the main saga. But these people that go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and ON about how bad it was as if their lives depended on it and let it ruin other Star Wars movies for them and stuff.. it’s just a bit much and it seems like there’s a better way to communicate your feelings or dislike about something.

I think part of it is the way our rhetoric has escalated. It's fun to come up with a creative way of saying you did or didn't like something, but now it feels like everyone is trying to one-up everyone else.

We can't just say, "I didn't like that movie." It's "This movie crawled up from the sewers and ATE MY SOUL, and then vomited it back up and ATE IT AGAIN."

And after a while, we sort of start thinking about it in those terms, which is not healthy (talking to myself here, too).

I think its more comparing the ST with the PT. We used to be comparing the Pt to the OT and it never stood a chance but the PT can look pretty good compared to the ST for a number of reasons.

Not in my book! I think Disney has been the best thing to happen to Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back.

Funny thing about the prequels... Everyone hated Phantom Menace. I remember everyone (on the messageboards I went to at the time) liking Attack Of The Clones. I even went back to those messageboards and searched the archives. Yep! AOTC was liked! A lot.

Now some time passes and AOTC is reviled. Even moreso than the Phantom Menace (which people seem to like now all of a sudden).

Funny how times change and the vocal masses on the internet's opinions change. People are weird. I'll never understand them.

(Me? I loved AOTC; it had a ton of action, the first time we saw someone in Mandalorian armor actually DO something besides bumble around and fall into a Sarlac pit), the beginning of the Clone Wars (which fans were dreaming about since A New Hope), and an epic lightsaber fight in an arena with 100 Jedis).

The prequels will always have apologists. My sense is that Star Wars in general is held in less esteem than it used to be. The brand has been diluted.

If the Internet has taught us anything, it's that every movie ever made has at least one fan, and every "classic" has more detractors than we realize.

That's one of the most frustrating things about the prequel trilogy for me. There are moments that are among the best in the franchise, but they're surrounded by such wooden dialogue and muddled story construction.

But there is now a whole generation that has grown up with them as part of Star Wars, and even I'm a little curious how much they'll come back into play in TROS.

This happens quite often with Disney releases.

I was skeptical about the acquisition too but then they started the sequel trilogy and then they bought Fox and now, I couldn't be happier.

They would be bestsellers. But I also don't expect to see them from Disney.
No, I don't think so. Obviously, there are a few hard core fans that would buy them, but I believe that everyone who wants Star Wars has already bought it and I don't think all that many people outside of the hard core actually cares or would recognize the difference between the originals and the SE's and subsequent modified editions.

In North America, the Original Trilogy package sold about 3 million copies. The Prequel Trilogy package sold about 1.3 million copies. The Complete Saga sold about 2.5 million copies. Episode IV sold 153,000 copies in 2015. (This counts only Blu-ray and only the top 100 titles within each year).

So far this year, UHD share of the top 20 UHD titles is averaging under a 10% share. So even with a UHD upgrade, these aren't going to sell a lot more copies and a release of the original versions is going to sell even less. Having said that, if they want to stick the original versions in a boxed set, I would have no objections and it might help sell the UHD editions, but it most certainly is not going to drive a lot of sales in spite of the demand here (which is really only a few hundred people at most).

Personally, I think they should wait and release 7, 8, 9, Solo, Rogue One and the despecialized original trilogy in a nice UHD boxed set (also with 1080p Blu-rays) with some nice extras that we haven't seen yet and maybe a nice new book and maybe that would get a fair number of people to double-dip.

Oh people with a differing opinion are called "apologists" I could care less what esteem Star Wars is held in by the general public. The public are the one's who embraced Twilight at a time, the public is flakey. And I have said it countless times it is FAKE NEWS that the prequels were disliked more people liked them than disliked them.
