You know, the "Never Available Again On Home Video" release of those versions.

But then he caved to the fanboys and released them as a bonus disc on DVD. Should have never done it.
I agree he pretty much just threw gasoline onto the fire with that.

Maybe it is patchwork and all. But as you said, it is HIS universe, so he is inclined to make the story fit his needs with what he'd like to tell. And I wouldn't have it any other way. The man created what I consider one of the greatest Sagas of all time. So I have no qualms with what he did with the series.

And I had a conversation with my friends the other day and have come to the conclusion that it seems that most people born in the very late 80s and early 90s who had both the original trilogy and were young when Episode 1 came out, enjoy the prequels much more than those who didn't. It was exciting for us because we had a chance to see a new Star Wars trilogy unfold, in theaters at a young age. It was captivating, much like it was for those who saw Star Wars in 1977. Is it the originals? No, but it was still Star Wars and it was awesome to see a new story on the screen! I'm almost 21 and I will stick by that. I love the whole series, and I always will. It's enthralling, exciting, and just incredible

I was born in 1980 and I disagree, I love the OT and always will, I just enjoy the PT more. So tell that to your friends about your little theory. Oh and my father is...57 and he enjoys the PT more than the OT also.

I said most bud It just seems like a lot of prequel hate comes from the people who grew up with only the originals, not both trilogies. That's all I'm saying There is always the exceptions to the rule obviously

Saw the OT in the theaters during their original run. Still enjoy the PT more.

There's a secondary aspect to that theory. A think a lot of people grew up and became incredibly jaded adults.

That combined with the fact many fans ignore the flaws and put the original films on a padestal doesn't help.

Where as some of us can view the PT with the same childlike eyes that fell in love with the OT back in the day.

I can agree with that as well. And it does tie into my theory, considering I was watching the prequel through a child's eyes since I was a kid when Episode 1 and 2 came out, and was a freshman in high school when Episode 3 came out. Episode 3 was my first midnight show too

I was born in 1977, loves both trilogies. Maybe the OT a bit more but only slightly.

But everyone must agree that the score by John Williams are equally fantastical for all 6 movies. The iconic main themes are in the whole saga, so we can't say they're specifically from the OT just because they're first heard in 1977/80/83.

I was watching ANH the other day and it's quite clear that Obi-Wan is lying to Luke about the death of his father. Whether to hide the fact that he killed Anakin (as original speculatively planned) or hiding the fact he did basically kill his father (cutting his arms and legs off and leaving him for dead) who was turned into Darth Vader by Palpatine.

Question when did Obi-Wan learn that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker? Was there a press conference or did he still feel his presence?

When we talk about wanting the original version are we talking about the 1977 version the '81 release of ANH the 70mm re-releases? No wonder GL is sticking to his SE guns, these suckers need a Blade Runner style release with workprints, original theatrical editions, re-releases and SE's.

Apart from the SE's I don't really know which other versions I'd want....

He knows who Darth Maul is, why wouldn't he know Anakin is called Darth Vader?

Also, you should discuss that kind of thing over there: https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/139...iscussion.html

My post was about the release of the boxset as well. What has Maul got to do with Vader?

And I'm well known for going off on tangents....

Update: Reposted in other thread.

But, it was great seeing the leadup to what we get in the OT and that was the point of the prequels. I knew George would employ all the toys at his disposal for the PT and that was OK with me. I didnt like it all but it wasnt some deal killer.

Just as we are called "Lucas apologists", sometimes I feel like those clinging to their Laserdisc versions of the OT with closed minds and an anti-prequel crusade are a little out of whack too. You telling me you didnt even like Revenge of the Sith? C'mon... thats just not believable. The OT has some suspect acting and campiness too.

Cant wait for these to come out on blu-ray. It somehow "completes" my blu-ray collection for the time being.
+1 Hit the nail on the head.

Why does that sound so right? I was born in 88 and went gaga when Episode I came out. I did see the 97 releases of Hope and Jedi and became a huge fan of the films. I think fans born that time may not have seen the films before 97, or were too young to notice any changes of they saw them before hand. Good theory.

And there goes pj_campbell's theory.

That's an excellent theory too Beast. Yeah, I see the name Star Wars, I expect space battles, likable characters (yes, even Anakin. Who hasn't complained about their parent but still care deeply for them), and decent stories. I think some fans expect too much from Star Wars. Me, all six films do it for me.
