Maybe it's because I only first got into Star Wars around when the DVDs first came out, but I don't mind how the official OT DVDs and Blu-Rays look. I'm just used to it.

I reckon that'll happen with the inevitable big-bastard 9 movie 'saga' set, which is what makes that recent re-release of the 2011 Blus in different covers such a piss take

4K77 and 4K83 (the latter especially) look fantastic (even more so after the further colour corrections, on releases 1.4 and 1.1 respectively), and I doubt even a HDR grade could sway me to go back to versions with the Lucas changes.

Patiently awaiting 4K80 though because the Despecialised versions completely suck in comparison. The crappy Blu-ray masters with SD inserts where appropriate? Blergh.

It's hard to be confident in your own opinion about a movie's transfer when everyone else thinks the transfer sucks.

Are any of the Special Edition changes really all THAT bad?

If they're not then why do you swear by another version that does its own corrections and highly questionable revisions? Or is that another of your rhetorical questions that will be resolved with a YouTube video in due course?

Do you have some sort of database where you collate all these questions and answers?

If and I mean if there had to be changes the only things I could get behind are the wampa arm error corrected and cleaning up the lightsabers. Plus garbage/matte errors. If this was all that was done and the UOT was also offered like what was done with the Blade Runner set I could have gotten behind it.

The problem with the SE changes has always been a matter of Lucas not being able to see the forest for the trees. If there's one SE change I could've gotten behind it would've been replacing the Emperor, but they even managed to hamstring that scene with some Maklunkey dialogue.

No. I'm just trying to form my own concrete opinion.

It's not even the added dialogue that gets me in that scene - it's Vader trying to play dumb - but rather Ian McDiarmid's inert performance, it's like they slipped a sedative into his latte before they shot the scene. No menace, no threat, give me monkey eyes lady any day of the week.

It’s like I say he looks and sounds like he’s legit reading off cue cards. And the added dialogue adds nothing. Actually that’s a lie it adds confusion to what we assume Vader should already know. Vader establishes early on that he’s looking for Luke so how is ‘Vader playing dumb’ suppose to add anything???

Well, the 4K80 project "ramped up" in November of 2018. I don't know if we need to be coy about it and not post links, but there's an official project page that's easy to find, and it shows they've finished all of reel 1, and are 10% done with reel 2, out of 6 reels.
