For those who saw the Prequel Trilogy on Disney+ in 4K, are they worth upgrading from the standard Blu-Rays once the 4K versions come out physically?

I've read an interview saying that the PT's CGI would get a few touchups, but I don't see any differences.

Who knows? It would depend on how they're authoured and what they offer over the current BDs.

I’ve looked myself, and I don’t see much differences, aside from the 4K versions being dimmer.

The article said this back in April:

Quote:
The issue with the prequel trilogy is that while Episode I was captured on film and can be mastered in 4K with no issues, Episodes II and III were both shot in 2K digital which means that any 4K master is going to be an upscale. Work is being done to "improve effects shots where possible" however "there is limited detail in the 2K image and any live action shots will see no significant boost in quality" over the Blu-ray release.
That's the point I was trying to make. I don't see ANY improvements in effects shots in the 4K version on Disney+.

Maybe because they want people to pay for the best possible "Special Editions"?

Not really, no. If you really look at The Last Jedi, and all the opinions and reviews, it's divisive but hardly universally hated. I'm not going to play the "which number is higher based on anecdotal evidence" game like has been done with the special editions/prequels. But from my own experience, I enjoyed The Force Awakens quite a bit, and thought The Last Jedi was much more of a mixed bag. I know other people that like the film as well, and a few who absolutely hated it. So they're all out there.

I know they aren’t true 4K, considering they were some of the first films to use digital cinematography, but how do the prequels fare in their 4K HDR transfers? How does the Dolby Atmos track sound?

Saw this today. The new transfer blows away the previous one.

The shot of Luke, upside down in the Wampa cave, looks too green.

That video is not really helpful at all.
All the "Blu-ray" shots are in the wrong color space with elevated blacks and screwy colors; frankly they look like they were taken from some crap recompressed encode and not from the Blu-ray.

Wonder if the 4k D+ material is wrong too.

Perhaps it would "look" better if I had an HDR monitor but this video is not really helpful at all.

And those terrible gaudy graphics are distracting and annoying. Too damn big, too fussy, and the choice to have them animate pass the whole frame like that, WTF.

Appears as though that is their shtick after looking at a couple more of their vids and it is rubbish.

A lot of the scenes look too green. But yes, the Luke scene is super green.

Wife 'n' I watched EMPIRE last night on our march toward RISE OF SKYWALKER. So good... obviously. One of the things in EMPIRE I think benefits the most from watching the prequels first is the trap Vader lays to lure Luke to Cloud City. Vader knows from his own Force visions of his mother and Padme that all he needs to do is torture Luke's friends to compel him to be there. Like father like son; can't resist those Force visions. For me, it has so much more impact knowing the angst-filled plan Vader is concocting, and all the painful memories he's acting upon. Pretty cool that Luke gets the vision before we've even arrived at the "city in the clouds" Luke is seeing.

One of my favorites sequences in the entire saga for sure. I also thoroughly enjoy Luke's conversation with Obi-Wan and Yoda concerning his visions.

"Luke, don't give into hate. That leads to the dark side."

"Mind what you've learned. Save you it can."

I imagine a lot of that is the conversion from REC2020 HDR to SDR - it doesn't look that green watching the actual stream.

The videos from that YT channel are very inaccurate and highly misleading with their 'HDR' comparison images, he forces the wrong colour space on the 4K stuff which completely throws out certain colours, greens especially. It's like he's forcing the 2020 gamut on the 4K which drastically changes where the green primary lives in particular, hence the greens looking so comically overblown in video after video after video that he's done. He's been told often enough by people but he just doesn't listen.

Yes, but even then there are ways to convert and ways not to convert; matey belongs to the latter group, this heavy green bias is present throughout his comparisons because he's getting it just plain wrong, and every single time someone posts them I feel like dropkicking my computer out the window. Do yourself a favour Pete, don't watch that shit anymore and please don't disseminate it further because it's just rewarding blind ignorance.
