Anakin was already too old for the Youngling level of training. So Obi-Wan handled most of Anakin's training.

No, Anakin went directly to be Obi-Wan's Padawan. Why? He was too old to begin the training as Yoda and Mace Windu had both stated. If he was the proper age he would have gone straight to Jedi school; taught by Yoda, along with all the other potentials. Otherwise Anakin would have been in Jedi Kindergarten being a 9 year old with all the 4 year olds.....

You guys are right; I'm sure Obi-Wan just didn't want to get into an extended conversation with Luke about it. I'm sure if he had more time, he would've explained it better and more accurately.

Furthermore, a lot of the reason why Anakin turned to the darkside was directly related to his rushed training. He was taught by a Jedi who was barely ready to take the Jedi Trials. If Anakin had been taught at the proper age (pending he was discovered earlier) he likely would have never turned being properly instructed by Yoda, before being handed off to a Jedi - presumably not Obi Wan Kenobi....

Plus Obi was dead.... and ghosts are somewhat unreliable. And if we view the scene from Luke's perspective he was pretty out of it with the frostbite and the Wampa smack in the mouth.... He probably imagined the whole thing....

Just like I did with Jar Jar Binks, he's not a real character is he?

Or, alternatively, if Gui-Gon didn't have the hots for Anakin's mom, none of this would've happened int he first place.

Exactly. The Jedis are trained from a very early age so they don't form strong emotional bonds.

Couple Anakin's emotional immaturity due when he was discovered and how he was trained and the loss of his mother, and it's no wonder it pushed him over the edge. Especially all along hearing how he was supposed to be the "Chosen One", yet felt he was being held back from that Destiny.

It's no wonder why Yoda has serious reservations about training Luke. He was not only older than Anakin, but just as reckless.

Not to derail the ongoing nitpicking that the tread has devolved into, but is it worth the purchase of the DVD box set for the OT DVDs contained?

Yes they're just under £15 in the UK and they're a curio if we never see the theatrical cut again in any form. Just watch them on a 4:3 CRT or you'll regret it.

I don't get all the comments about guys wanting the theatricals, if we all went away when we were told 'No' the world would be a duller place. We'll keep asking until we get 'em. No harm in that.

It will eventually get down around $60-70. It's just a matter of when.

You might want to wait.

1. We don't have any clarity on what the BD set will even contain. Maybe it'll include 480p editions of the OT and you won't even need to buy it. (Unlikely, obviously... but again, we don't know yet.)

2. Prices on the DVDs will likely drop like a stone this autumn. So, you can probably grab new or like new copies from Amazon marketplace for about 1/2 what they're going for now.

As a general answer ("worth the purchase"?), it's hard to say. The actual quality of the transfer was great by 1993 standards, but you can imagine how bad it looks by 2011 standards. If you want to have the OT and can overlook the ancient transfer... yes, it's worth it.

I just read on Wikipedia that a scene is confirmed as included in the BD release of ROTJ.. The one where Vader communicates with Luke while Luke is assembling his new lightsaber before going to Jabba's palace. Is this true?

Which lossless audio track do you think LFL will use for the star wars blu-ray box set Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio? I whould think since all the star wars releases both on dvd and blu-ray have used Dolby it whould be Dolby True HD but since all the movie studios support DTS HD Master Audio whould the blu-ray box set have DTS HD Master Audio?

Yes and no. We've had confirmation that it will be included as a deleted scene and there has been mention of other unseen footage that will also be included. What has not been stated is that it will be incorporated into the film. So yes, it will be on the Blu-ray release but as to which disc it's on and in what form (in film or special feature) remains to be seen.

Personally I highly doubt we'll see extra footage in the actual films. Lucas likes to tinker, but I think the tinkering would probably keep to the usual visual effects type changes. I think it's just going to be on one of the special features discs.

I'm betting on DTS-HD MA. Although THX have traditionally used Dolby Digital, THX 1138 was DTS-HD MA (issued by Warner Bros) and Fox uses DTS also. It could really go either way, but I think at the moment it leans a little more in favour of a DTS track.

Personally though: Who cares? For me: lossless = lossless = lossless. A native 7.1 remix is the one thing I'd really like. Considering Lucas is doing the theatrical re-release next year you could speculate they've done a new mix for that and hopefully we'll see them with fresh 7.1 mixes. That's the thing I'm more interested in.

Remember, the six films chronicle the rise, fall & return of Anakin Skywalker. The return was his.

The original title was 'Revenge of the Jedi' until someone reminded Lucas that Jedi do not seek revenge.

The title is referring to Luke.

You'll be waiting longer than 2012, if you mean the whole series on 3D Blu-Ray.

He's only releasing one a year. And there's no word if they'll get 3D releases right away or not.

2012 - The Phantom Menace
2013 - Attack Of The Clones
2014 - Revenge Of The Sith
2015 - A New Hope
2016 - The Empire Strikes Back
2017 - Return Of The Jedi

So it'll be at least 2017 if not 2018 before they'll be all out on 3D Blu-Ray, if they come out right away.
