I love it! You are sooo fn right, LOL. Nothing on this set is confirmed other than what we have heard directly from Lucasfilm.

I've got the LOTR theatricals on DVD, don't need or want them on Blu. The Extended Cuts, however - that's a different story.

Then you made the right choice! Me, I don't really care about the LOTR films, so the theatrical versions are enough for me. 3 and half hours of walking is just about the same as 4 hours of walking. You just get to see more trees than I do....LOL. Just kidding around.

Will the blu-rays simply dump the 16bit 44.1khz stereo files into a 5.1 lossless remix, or are the studio masters actually higher sample rate, etc? I never got into DVD Audio and whatnot, so I'm not sure if CDs are in fact compressed or natively recorded at 44.1khz 16bit.
CDs are not compressed. They are always 44.1Khz 16 bit, regardless of how the master tapes were recorded, which could be analog, 44.1Khz/16 bit digital or various higher sampling rates or bit levels.

And while digital recording started to happen several years before the general release of CDs to the market, beginning in 1983, I suspect that at least some of the OT was recorded analog, although digital recording was used for classical music early on. However, even if it was recorded digitally, most engineers who worked with digital at the time will tell you that it wasn't very good and it wasn't even really a full 16 bit. The PT was probably recorded 96/24.

If there's a booklet with those CDs, especially the PT, it will probably tell you how and where it was recorded. However, the soundtracks have completely separate masters from the audio for the movies and the soundtrack masters won't be used for the Blu-ray (even though they come from the same source.)

Even if the BR soundtracks are somewhat remixed, they don't go back to the original stems which can comprise thousands of channels. In film mixing, there's always a premixing process that happens first and then multiple mixers will sit at a console with three sections - one for music, more for effects and one for dialog, each usually 48 channels in. A 5.1 (minimum) is created for each of those (obviously dialog has to be always kept separate so dubbed versions can be created.)

Yep, Anakin couldn't have been cast originally in the OT, but now that we have a young Anakin, they should use him in all the shots, although I am pretty happy the way it was in the 2004 version.
So, when Anakin turned back to the good side... That didn't count? He was a trained & exceptionally strong Force user. When he turned from the light to the dark side, he went from being a Jedi to a Sith. In my eyes, when he returned to the light, he was once again a Jedi. Enough so that he was able to appear before Luke as a spirit. Anakin died a Jedi... Hence, his appearance as a spirit should have been as when he died, which was a as Jedi.

My issue with that, at this point in time, is that it's now possible to replace all of Sebastian Shaw with Hayden. Am I saying that's honoring Sebastian's work? No, but that isn't the question. The issue at hand is continuity. Sorry, but if it's proper to replace Sebastian's ghost scene with Hayden, it is also appropriate to replace Vader's unmasking with Hayden. Sorry, but no matter what anyone says or thinks or likes, Anakin Skywalker is Hayden Christensen. Following some people's logic, the scene where Anakin is burned on Mustafar should be redone with Sebastian Shaw. It's funny how people will only run their course of logic to the point where it fits what they want or feel. Once it goes past that, there's a problem with it. I know it wasn't possible to cast Hayden in the OT. But it is possible to place him in it now.

Hayden being in ROTJ just makes things confusing. Does Luke even know who that is? Why does it make more sense to show Anakin at the time of his ultimate betrayal rather than when he redeemed himself and fulfilled the prophecy? I think it's one of those things George just did so he could say, "Look! The OT and PT match up!"

Seeing a healthy, happy Darth Vader was my favorite part of the Celebration scene and now it's gone.

/end rant (As long as you guys are talking about it.)

What kind of ego boost you guys think Hayden got when he found out he was going to be put into the original SW trilogy? That would be such an honor.

I just say leave it be and that's coming from someone who's actually enjoyed most of the changes Lucas has made to his films so far.

Agreed. It actually used to bother me but it doesn't anymore and I feel it makes more sense in the end. Plus, it's Lucas' vision, so if thats how he wants me to see it then that's how I'm going to watch it. It's his series, and I stand by what he's done with it...Minus Han not shooting first

Maybe Anakin chose his younger, pre mutilated form for his spectral image. After all, in the OT we see Sebastian Shaw unburned with human arms and legs rather than the robot ones he had ever since Obi Wan nearly destroyed him as a young man on Mustafar.
As far as replacing Shaw's burned up and aged face under the mask with Hayden's, that makes no sense as that scene took place after Anakin had been burned to a crisp and aged 20-30 years under a vacuum sealed mask, it would make sense for Anakin to show the effects of aging under those conditions rather than put Hayden's face there. Three actors played AnakinSkywalker, Jake Lloyd, Hayden Christensn, and finally Sebastian Shaw as the face of the older mutilated Anakin, there's no need to change that.

I wonder if Lucas or his company read reviews of their products. Because when I go on Amazon, there's nothing but "Give us back our Star Wars" type comments.

You didn't like SW when you were a kid?

Wow, haha. Luke Skywalker was an idol in my childhood. In fact, I used to ask my mom why she didn't name me Luke instead of James because Luke is a heroic, masculine name.

Hwah? Who's avatar is Avatar? I'm confused by what you're rambling about. Anyway...

Sorta missed the point didn't ya. If people hated the newer versions so much, they wouldn't sell like hotcakes.

And sure there are plenty of people crying about the new versions on Amazon, that's what the internet is for.

People don't often feel the need to scream and shout about how much they loved a movie after all.

I think it goes back to the love/hate relationship a lot of hardcore fans have for the series. They constantly complain yet they are the same ones first in line for the newest Star Wars release.

I'm positive if Lucas never changed his movies, they'd be selling just as much if not more.

Of course, if they were released side-by-side, the newer versions would sell more because they'd be hyped more as "Director's Cut", "Extended Edition", etc. Although a lot of fans wouldn't fall for that since the "Director's Cut" would be referring to the lame pop song in ROTJ, Greedo shooting first with a teleporting Han Solo coming out on top, and the many other changes that make SW controversial today.

And WOW! Nice trailer to the above poster.

Wasn't David Prowse playing a version of Anakin as well? They should have shown his spectral image next to James Earl Jones just to mess with everyone!

It would be amazing if it was true... I'd die to see HD renditions of the Original Episodes IV-VI! Having Hayden Christian's face superimposed on Sebastian Shaw's body is still one of the biggest WTF's...

Yeah, and I think it goes the other way too. If an unaltered version of the OT were made available as a separate release I think a lot of SE supporters would snap it up.
