If they gave the '77 version of ANH and not the 1981 version people would complain, same with all the other re-releases. A SE release isn't going to cut it in this day and age with this technology. Kudos to the work done on the Blade Runner set they knew what people wanted and gave it to them in spades....

I'd probably stick to the newer versions only. I have the original versions on so many formats.

Hell, I even bought the sets with the original versions on DVD. Never watch those versions though. Eh.

I believe David Prowse was the actor. who wore the Vader suit in the OT. they should have an extra deleted scene where they have shaw, Lloyd, Christensen, Prowse and jones show up in spectral form during the final scene. Maybe as a special feature for the 3D release or the OT re-release.

Heh. I doubt that Lucas would hire David Prowse to clean the restrooms, much less apear in anything again.

And while digital recording started to happen several years before the general release of CDs to the market, beginning in 1983, I suspect that at least some of the OT was recorded analog, although digital recording was used for classical music early on. However, even if it was recorded digitally, most engineers who worked with digital at the time will tell you that it wasn't very good and it wasn't even really a full 16 bit. The PT was probably recorded 96/24.

If there's a booklet with those CDs, especially the PT, it will probably tell you how and where it was recorded. However, the soundtracks have completely separate masters from the audio for the movies and the soundtrack masters won't be used for the Blu-ray (even though they come from the same source.)

Even if the BR soundtracks are somewhat remixed, they don't go back to the original stems which can comprise thousands of channels. In film mixing, there's always a premixing process that happens first and then multiple mixers will sit at a console with three sections - one for music, more for effects and one for dialog, each usually 48 channels in. A 5.1 (minimum) is created for each of those (obviously dialog has to be always kept separate so dubbed versions can be created.)
I can't speak for John Williams, but Jerry Goldsmith was an early proponent of digital, often using prototype equipment to digitally record his scores, like Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Twilight Zone: The Movie. He also embraced SACD (DSD), feeling that it was the best format to capture the "warmth" of analog that purists who despised digital demanded (the anti-DDD group!).

Back in the days when the labels would still use the SPARS code, most Williams soundtracks were labeled "AAD" (for analog recording/mix and digital master). One curiosity was Hook, which was "DAD": digitally recorded, yet mixed in analog using the Dolby SR professional analog noise reduction system.

If it's the same fan trailer from a few pages ago, no - it isn't "amazing". It would be amazing if a 1st grader made it - but made by any person over the age of six? Not amazing. Some of you people are apparently incredibly easy to impress.

I've been looking at this guy's own version of Star Wars, his name is Adywan and its a fan edit version of the film.

It's incredible that a random guy on the net with some skills and a video editing program can create something so superior to the original creator's product.

Can't condone some illegal fan edit.

Silly how people complain about Lucas tinkering, but give some person a pass for doing so without permission.

I don't trust any one who makes a fan edit of the films it's illegal to do one without getting caught. And I don't condone it.

Is the Ultimate Edition getting released at the same time or do we have to wait? I want the ORIGINAL films that were seen in theatres. I don't want this updated crap.

Lucas has said before that he finds fan edits interesting. He also said he does not condone breaking copyright only that he finds it interesting. Lucasfilm have only taken action against one editor, and they are aware of some major websites involving the matter. From what I've seen on youtube Adywan has done some great color correcting especially considering his resources. I dont condone releasing these things to the public, but if a person wants to try his hand at editing and would like to use a film laying around the house I dont see anything wrong with it. What you do in your home with your belongings is your private business as long as it stays in your home.

Unfortunately that is not what Adywan is doing. Regardless of whether the quality of the work is good or not YouTube explicitly asks you to confirm you are the owner of the copyright of the material when uploading a file. Adywan does not own the copyright to Star Wars. And uploading to YouTube or providing it to others and them doing so is certainly not keeping the work you've done "in your home". Now if Adywan was to upload a show-reel of all the new visual effects created for their cut then that's a different story as that is their work. Uploading scenes from a film, regardless of what you have done with them is a copyright violation even if done for fun and with no intention of seeking monetary gain.

I didn't even know he was the uploader. His edit is very popular and is widespread on the internet. I read somewhere that it's legal to download the edit as long as you possess the 2006 DVD release.

If he does control the version on YouTube, then he should take it down. No excuse for that.

It's not for people who want to watch the theatricals. It started with his disappointment with George's screw-ups with the '04 DVD release and I guess since the guy's into video editing he started tinkering around with it and it turned into a 2 year project for him.

Even though it has stuff added in, he did take out a lot of stuff that pissed people off, such as Greedo shooting at Han and some of the distracting CGI characters added for no reason at all. Though I did catch a glimpse of his Vader vs. Ben and I didn't like it. He added Battle of the Heroes and tried to make it more epic but it ended up being "meh".

No, that is how they're justifying it to the studios, by trying to show in good faith that their fan edits aren't taking sales away from the studios. Owning the original DVD does not make it legal to download a bootleg or fan edit.

Random internet guys tinkering doesn't prevent other versions from being available. That's the key difference.

The 'uproar' over the tinkering would be an ignorable mumble if Lucas would allow the original, classic, award-winning editions to be available.

The issue isn't that Hayden is in RotJ or that Boba Fett speaks w/a New Zealand accent. It's that we're stuck with that, apparently forever... unless we want to watch VHS or LD equivalents. That would be inexcusable for even a minor film. For something like Star Wars, you need a new word, because "inexcusable" doesn't cover it.

Someone needs to quote the intro that Aldous Huxley wrote when a new edition of Brave New World was published. It's apt.
